Nick 1733 Posted October 15, 2004 Posted October 15, 2004 The top four will be the four I use.Personally my vote is for the Fire, been in my mind for several years (since 1997). MLB, NBA, NFL & NHL Font Packs
Dilbert Posted October 15, 2004 Posted October 15, 2004 LA! Los Angeles needs the NFL to return to the city. Hartford seems a bit too small for a NFL team, and besides New England already has the Patriots.Tulsa just doesnt seem like a good location for a team.(Raptors in Oklahoma??)Orlando has been struggling with pro sports lately, so not a wise choice for a teamAs for Toronto and Calgary, No offense to you Canadians, but you guys already have the CFL, not to mention teams already in those cities. America is NFL territory, Canada is CFL territory. Maybe the NFL could play an preseason game or two there. Signature intentionally left blank
gosioux76 Posted October 15, 2004 Posted October 15, 2004 I don't know. When I think of L.A. Fire I think of the Rodney King riots for some reason. It doesn't work for me. But of your city choices, i'd take LA over the rest of them.
Stampman Posted October 15, 2004 Posted October 15, 2004 Hartford Stingrays is the best name-wise, and as for the CFL--while I do watch NFL, I prefer the CFL as more entertaining...But there are enough differences that I can appreciate both... Comic Sans walks into a bar, and the bartender says, "Sorry, we don't serve your type here."
B-Rich Posted October 15, 2004 Posted October 15, 2004 "Hartford Stingrays" and "Orlando Sharks" once again bring up a pet peeve of mine-- naming teams after nautical/aquatic things that don't fit in terms of the host city/area's geography.Unless I'm mistaken, you won't find any stingrays in the Connecticut River, and Hartford is about 40 miles from Long Island Sound, where you might find some stingrays. And the only Sharks you'll find in Orlando-- about an hour from either the Gulf or the Atlantic-- are in Sea World."Hartford Whalers" was a similar deal. Originally, the team was the New England Whalers. When you cover a whole area that borders the coast like that, it's okay. But when you take the name of an inland city-- that doesn't work for me.Other bad examples in this vein include the old Tallahassee Tigersharks of the ECHL, and of course the Birmingham Barracudas of the CFL. The Portland Breakers of the USFL really were a stretch, too. (New Orleans has Lake Pontchartrain and Lake Borgne, which can have some breakers if there's a good breeze blowin') And though not real, the Orlando Breakers from "Coach".Oh, and like the other posters, I think that LA is the only option the NFL will consider, out of those you listed. I hope they get 2 expansion franchises (for balance) and allow all existing teams to stay put. It is what it is.
