OMMF Posted November 22, 2004 Posted November 22, 2004 I was going to PM Chris about this but I also wanted to get other peoples opinions. Obviously, how I feel or anyone else is in no way a mandate in terms of telling Chris how to run his site. I've noticed lately, especially today, that there seem to be a whole bunch of guests on. I would guess todays bump has to do with the D.C. logo being released. My question is, would you feel more comfortable with visitors being unable to see this area of the boards until they sign up? Or do you view the sign up process as nothing more than a formality and hiding this forum wouldn't do much to discourage those who are going to take anyway. Also, does being able to see this area encourage those who want to share to sign up as opposed to not signing up because there is no indication of what is here? There has been a noticeable increase in the amount of concepts, redesigns, and edits and I would hate to see another instance where one of these was stolen but it makes it a bit easy when anyone can take a look at everything.I was just curious as to what you guys thought.
shiznit1083 Posted November 22, 2004 Posted November 22, 2004 I beleive so for our own protections sake. Many of us first came here eager to get the opinions of others who share our interest and to have people steal our work is preventing many of use from doing just that.
budbowl77 Posted November 22, 2004 Posted November 22, 2004 I agree with the idea..I have not posted a single logo on this board out of fear of theft. And I hope that CC will implement these procedures to prevent art from being stolen.
Beantown77 Posted November 22, 2004 Posted November 22, 2004 I used to come here and lurk (which I still do) and I'll chip in every once in a while (especially concerning Boston Unis), but I still became a member right off the bat. It just seems a bit disingenious to float around here without having some sort of attachment to the effort...
scooter13 Posted November 22, 2004 Posted November 22, 2004 Since membership is free, I don't see that blocking it would help. Of course it is easy for me to say since I have never posted a design worth stealing. Detroit Dragons - 2010 ULL Gait Cup ChampionsDetroit Cougars - 2010 and 2011 WAFA Wills Cup Champions
DEAD! Posted November 22, 2004 Posted November 22, 2004 Since membership is free, I don't see that blocking it would help. Of course it is easy for me to say since I have never posted a design worth stealing. I echo those sentiments. I saw, I came, I left.
BC_RochNY Posted November 22, 2004 Posted November 22, 2004 I am somewhat of a new member so to speak, I enjoy reading all of the posts, and really enjoy seeing the creative minds on thesight and in these forums. I don't have any intention of stealing any logo created, and don't have the resources to design any...as much as I would love to get into it. I applaud all of you who so artistically amazing with your concepts that I truly wish that some of these teams would really consider some (most) of the ideas and concepts shown here...so I guess where I sit, I hope that the forums are not closed down, but on the other hand, I respect all of you for wanting the protection of your work. Thank you for giving me a few minutes of your time and thank you for allowing to see it.

Mings Posted November 22, 2004 Posted November 22, 2004 i think that watermarking is a big help, a lot of people dont want to bother with taking the watermark out when taking an image. that being said, i think alot of people just join to browse. if they do that I beleive they should critique or make comments as well. there should be maybe a 6 month, if you dont post, you arent a member anymore rule. that way, if they dont post, they arent a member after the 6 months, there can be a form e-mail sent saying that he membership was terminated due to that, but allowing them to rejoin as long as they comment.
BC_RochNY Posted November 22, 2004 Posted November 22, 2004 I agree with that, now that I have posted something, I will be pleased to offer up opinions on the concepts, and if anyone can give me advice on how to get started in designing logos and such, I would love to hear from you.

Just be kind to your work when watermarking. Sometimes watermarking makes your stuff look like crap, to the point where you might've just as well made a crappy logo no one wants to steal anyway.A watermark that's so hard to make out because it's so light is a good watermark. 50% opacity is not watermarking... it's waterbludgeoning.
Mings Posted November 22, 2004 Posted November 22, 2004 mine is set at 20% just to help ya guys out. but then again i might be overdoing it?
winters in buffalo Posted November 22, 2004 Posted November 22, 2004 yeah, 15-20% usually works, depending on the design.
swisherHOU Posted November 23, 2004 Posted November 23, 2004 I hate boards that require you to sign up. If people want to steal, signing up won't stop them anyway.
iDonovan Posted November 23, 2004 Posted November 23, 2004 I have a bit of a fear of logos being stolen...but most are already in someone hands, before I post here...and I don't worry I will make more. I hate it more when a guy on here asks me to do a logo and says he will pay for it...and never does.... that is stealing.
AAO Posted November 23, 2004 Posted November 23, 2004 i'm a little worried too. i post concepts pretty often. now i usually watermark my stuff but its not that hard to get rid of a watermark. but if the board had to be closed to non members, i would feel bad for the lurkers who just want to look at the topics here and nothing more. but then again, all they have to do is register and become a member. chris, do what you will with your site, i'll always be a part of it, but IMO i think you should close it to non members. the registration process is so easy and doesn't take anymore than 5 minutes. if people can't take 5 minutes of their time to register to be a part of this board, they shouldn't be able to view the boards. Maybe a small disclaimer as to why we need them to register on the main page before entering any forums would do the job. just my opinion. Behance Network || ianbakar.com || Dribbble
IronChefShark Posted November 23, 2004 Posted November 23, 2004 upon further review, yes, this forum should be closed to the general public.or at the very least, put new members on a "probationary" period, that way they see how things are run around here and know how to conduct themselves before they come in and piss off a long timer.
