gameface
In no particular order because they're all memorable for different reasons: Todd Bertuzzi's moronic move. I'm a lifelong Canucks fan, but there is no way I could in any way condone this. He could have ended Moore's career and he did give hockey a huge black eye. Hockey is the greatest game in the world. Unfortunately, those in charge (hello there, Gary Bettman) have never sold it the way it should be. Bertuzzi's actions make it more difficult should Bettman ever get around to doing this. Plus, Bertuzzi's selfishness - along with ex-Canuck Martin Gelinas and his teammates - helped remove the Canucks from the playoffs long before they should have been out. Montreal Expos no longer the Montreal Expos. Montreal is definitely first and foremost a hockey town. They didn't really support the team the way it needed to be supported. But they'd been there as long as I can remember and they produced some fine players over the years, including a fellow from just down the road, Larry Walker. No NHL. Bettman and Goodenow should both find themselves unemployed. While I'm largely sympathetic to the calls for a salary cap, the owners are looking for a foolproof method to protect them from themselves. "Cost certainty?" Can anyone guarantee how much I'm going to make when I open my new business? We're without hockey and many, many people that make their living off of it, aren't. It will be January 2006 by the time we see any, I think. The Red Sox beating the Yanks and the Cards. I remember as a boy watching Boston in the World Series against the Big Red Machine. They didn't stand much of a chance, and I was rooting for the underdog. I still remember Fisk's homerun. While they haven't been my favourite team, I still have a soft spot for them. Not truly sports, but Chris Benoit finally capturing the World Title after all those years in front of a worldwide audience. I know it's pre-determined. It's still sort of sport-like though, and it was a good Canadian kid. A truly deserving one at that. There are some other ones that come to mind, but I don't think we've heard the last of them. BALCO and Barry Bond's playing fast and loose with the truth are those at the head of the list.
Stampman
Not truly sports, but Chris Benoit finally capturing the World Title after all those years in front of a worldwide audience. I interviewed Chris when he was an up & coming nobody--great guy--very nice & humble--I haven't really followed his career though, as I'm not too into pro wrestling... gameface
I actually got to meet him backstage at a RAW taping a few years back when by buddy was interviewing him. I'll echo your sentiment - he's one of the nicest, most humble people you could hope to meet.

The World Series was anticlimactic after that.Australian cricket team wins in India for the first time in decades.
CZzyzx41
Yes the Red Sox win was a big story, but on a personal level--what do you think will be the top 5 sports memories for 2004.It may be the Sox still. But if Baseball and/or the Red Sox aren't your top priorities there would be other stories that are your personal ones...So to repeat again--these are your personal memories or highlights--they don't have to be big news stories... (although they can be too)Mine would normally incude a Stampeders story--but other than John Grace & Nik Lewis there wasn't much...So my top 5 highlights--in no real order--1-The Canada-er World Cup--some very good hockey along the way--and the Good Guys won... 2-The Flames made the playoffs after missing them for 7 years--as a Flames fan--that's a biggie3-The Flames win a playoff series for the first time in 15 years--Not a fond memory for Canucks fans--but for Flames fans, another biggie4-The Flames beat the Red Wings--who show their age...Martin Gelinas comes up big again in OT! I may never forget that goal...5-The Flames get to the finals--unfortunately the ending wasn't better--but what a ride!So yours will probably differ--and in sports for one team to be happy, another has to be sad...And Lightning fans trump me on that one... Amen to that. I got my first Flames jersey for Christmas this year. VERY NICE.Top five memories for me in 2004:1. Red Sox journey and World Series Victory2. Flames playoff run3. Padres open Petco Park and challenge for NL West Championship. First winning season since 1998.4. hit on Steve Moore by Todd Bertuzzi5. Pistons-Pacers melee.Obviously the last two weren't positive memories but these are the five things from 2004 that I'm likely to remember for a long time. I could name the Chargers surprising season or the Lakers (haha) losing in the Finals to the Pistons. I could mention the Summer Olympics but those things won't be as remembered for me as the above five. -DanielCheck Out My Podcast!
