amare32
From the Los Angeles Times of Los Angeles:The team also sent an e-mail to every other major league club on Monday, asking to be called "Los Angeles" instead of "Anaheim" and listed in abbreviations as "LA" or "LAA" instead of "ANA." RichO
so they're to be abreviated as LA or LAA according to their request...wouldn't LAAA be more accurate? I say go with LAAA, it highlights the ridiculousness a little better.
marlinfan
I would think the Dodgers go to LAD and the Angels LA/A or LAA. 1997 | 2003
gosioux76
I would think the Dodgers go to LAD and the Angels LA/A or LAA. I'd guess that the second "A" in "LAA" refers to American League, rather than Anaheim. By that notion, the Dodgers would be LAN or just LA since they were first. Swiss
That name really sux!!! Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim?!?!?!WHY NOT THAT ONE: Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in California ?!?!?!So we can put in a single sentence all the names and renames in all the history of the Angels!!! Saintsfan
hey just think the Dodgers could get hback in touch with there roots now and be called the Brooklyn Dodgers of Los Angeles.Incidentally, am I right in thinking the Lakers and Clippers played in Anaheim for a wjhile? Or am I going crazy?? 2011/12 WFL Champions
Swiss
Surely many in California are already musing that Los Angeles means "the angels" in Spanish, so the team name is now the Angels Angels of Anaheim. Aha, but what does Anaheim mean? It is a concocted word built from the German heim, for home, and the Spanish word Ana from the Santa Ana River. So the team's new name means the Angels Angels of River Home. "Let's go Angels Angels of River Home!" Actually Ana became from Santa Ana River. Ana is a female name, in English it's Anne.Santa Ana = Saint Anne.To cheer the team in proper English, it should be:"Go, go, go the Angels Angels of Saint Anne River Home!!!" I'd guess that the second "A" in "LAA" refers to American League, rather than Anaheim. By that notion, the Dodgers would be LAN or just LA since they were first. Well, the Dodgers being there first probably wouldn't have anything to do with it, The Yankees were around more than fifty years before the Mets came into the picture, yet they're abbreviated NYY(New York Yankees) and NYM(New York Mets) just the same.If the Los Angeles Angels sticks(whether or not they keep "of Anaheim"), then the abbreviations will go "LAD" for Los Angeles Dodgers and "LAA" for Los Angeles Angels. MLB won't use four letters(like LAAA) or a backslash(like LA/A) in a team abbreviation. Swiss
hey just think the Dodgers could get hback in touch with there roots now and be called the Brooklyn Dodgers of Los Angeles. HA! You are right. But if that stuff would be made in Brooklyn Dogs' times, the team's name would be:The Brooklyn Dodgers of New York. You see, since NYC Consolidation in 1897, Brooklyn is a legal borough of the city of New York and the Brooklynites chose to hate Manhattanites through the Giants-Dodgers clashes. So being named with "New York" is too hard for the old Dogs fans. BallWonk
What about The Angles of the Outfield? That's what they're named after..Actually, no. Disney redid the Angels' logo to [promote/cash in on/pay tribute to] the movie. But the team was named after the Los Angeles Angels of the old Pacific Coast League. Funnily enough, the PCL Angels had a crosstown rival who, despite notoriously poor attendance, never stooped to calling themselves the Los Angeles Stars of Hollywood. CC97
Hooray, another set of teams we can use the popular (AL) and (NL) brackets for! It'll be interesting to see how the Dodgers (LAD? LA? LAN?) get abbreviated now, similar to the Yankees (NYY) and Mets (NYM) or more like the Cubs (CHI/CHN) and White Sox (CWS/CHA) --- Chris Creamer Founder/Editor, SportsLogos.Net  "The Mothership" • News • Facebook • X/Twitter • Instagram
jkrdevil
The LAA abrrevation could stand for alot. Just Los Angeles Angels, comine LA to 1 letter and LAA would be Los Angeles Angels of Anahiem, Los Angeles/ Anahiem, or Los Angeles American League. So far the move seems to have backfired as all the major media makets and mlb.com still list them when going by location as Anahiem and by abbreveation as ANA. Also saintsfan, the Clippers used to play a few home games in Anahiem. Also I heard that if Kobe would have signed there they would have played a few games there again. Anahiem is certaintly in the Los Angeles region.
southpawstu19
isnt anaheim a smaller section of LA, given that there still is no reason to use the nama of los angeles angels of anaheim, just use one or the other.
Gothamite
Except that they need to use Los Angeles to get the broadcast revenue dollars that the Dodgers get, and they need to "include" Anaheim in order to satisfy a poorly-worded contract. How's this one, TCR? Depending, on who you ask Anahiem is a suburb of LA. It's in Orange County. Anahiem is about 30 minutes away so it is in the LA metro area. Histroy wise teams have used both, The Ducks were the first use Anahiem although they put of anaheim after Mighty Ducks in the name. The Rams played in the same stadium the Angels do now and called themselves LA.
