Nationals BP Cap

It's the only thing we don't know about yet. Since both Nationals caps(or at least the home one) are from the 60's and 70's, think they'll use the 63-67 cap as the BP cap?

I do know that the BP jersey and caps were NOT designed by the designer of the logo and uniforms...so who knows what'll come out of the design...

Or I wonder if they could actually bevel the type. They have the rounded logos, why not give them sharp edges...is this possible?

For the life of me, I don't understand why so many of you would rather have a DC on the cap instead of a W.

The team is called the WASHINGTON Nationals, not the DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA Nationals. It just makes sense, then, that one would use a W instead of a DC. Especially when you're using the classic old Senators' W.

I know, some of you are saying, "But what about the Twins and their TC caps." Look, I'm a die-hard Twins fan and have been since the second year of their existence in Minnesota (I turn 49 in April, for those who are wondering). The TC isn't really cool at all. But there's tradition behind that TC, and that's the only reason the TC looks good.

There is no tradition in a DC cap. There is, however, in the W cap. I know, the Senators didn't exactly have a proud tradition, but I see the W caps and it reminds me of Frank Howard slugging and Ted Williams managing. Not a bad twosome, at all.

So get off your horses about DC and enjoy the W. Just like I will.

Although the Inaugural Season patch reads "Established 1905" these are not the Washington Senators or original Washington Nationals... tradition should not really be much of a factor when it comes to this.

1. It matches the rest of the theme which is a nice touch.

2. It's an interesting way to shake things up rather than just a letter W. Everyone knows DC refers to Washington, some people call the city just DC or The District. And you get "Washington" on the uniform and "DC" on the hat just to make sure nobody thinks they're from the Pacific Northwest, I guess.

3. I think the TC does look cool. It looks better than the M which could be interpreted as Minneapolis.

4. There's no GOOD tradition in the W hats! If Ted Williams managed as well as he hit, maybe that wouldn't be just an afterthought to his career. Personally I'd want to abandon all ties to the old Twins and Rangers. (And on that note why isn't the W considered Texas's intellectual property?) It's not even an interesting design. And it's cursive, and there's no cursive to be found anywhere else in the team.

I think eventually somebody will change it.

There was no tradition behind the TC when the Twins started wearing it. If it would be wrong for a team to start using alternate initials now, then it was wrong for the Twins to start using the TC logo then. Since when is "but this is how we've always done it" an excuse for continuing to do something that was wrong in the first place? "Tradition" on its own doesn't make wrong things right, silly things sensible, or ugly things beautiful.

And the idea that the Nationals are using the "classic old Senators W" is just plain wrong. The Senators used that particular W for only nine seasons. Nine crummy seasons with mostly four-digit attendance. The only tradition that W ties into is a tradition of losing and of playing in an empty ballpark. The only W that can reasonably be called "traditional" is the block W the Senators wore until 1962.

The TC/DC comparison is also a poor analogy. For most Washingtonians, "DC" is a synonym for the city of Washington (and sometimes for the metro area). In all my years in Minnesota, I never once heard anyone call the Twin Cities "TC" like people call Washington "DC."

I think we need to remember that the Senators (2) left Washington 33 years ago, and for most people who still remember baseball in DC, the current home cap is the cap they remember, so it's a sensible bridge to the past.

Also, the team is called the Washington Nationals, not the DC Nationals, so I feel that DC should definitely be a secondary logo, at most.

Well, since we're having this debate again... I'm in favor of the W. In fact, I'd love to see that cap with the piping pasted above revived in some form.... or anyone try it again.
