There is Pac-Man Jones who plays football at West Virginia.

My favorite nickname-generally-included-in-the-name of all time is Oil Can Boyd. Otherwise my favorite nickname is the "Galloping Ghost" for Red Grange.

i remember The Nigerian Nightmare, Christian Okoye, and Craig "Ironhead" Heyward. Then there's everybody's favorite nickame-that-might-as-well-be-his-name, He Hate Me aka Rod Smart ^_^

then there's two of the odder nicknames: Fred Hoiberg, you can call him "The Mayor" and Wally World, aka Wally Szczerbiak

the best handles seem to go to the And 1 streetballers nowadays: Skip to My Lou (Rafer Alston), Helicopter, Spyda, Escalade, 1/2 Man 1/2 Amazing, 50, Main Event, Shane the Dribbling Machine, Alimoe, Prime Objective, Sik Wit It, Go Get It and of course Professor....everybody want tha professor :D

oh yeah, and then we have the Packers' two Batmen, Ahman Green (Batman I) and Ahmad Carroll (Batman II).

Torry Holt is "Big Game". Granted, I believe he came up with that, but I'm also pretty sure it's from his days at NC State. Even if he did come up with it, he's lived up to it. (Though, and this is not meant as a knock on Holt, I still think Bruce is the go to guy in an important game.)

Well, it's "Big Game". That's what I've read and heard, plus that is how Holt introduces himself on MNF (though I'm not sure I like him doing that.

That said, your probably right about Madden saying "Big Play", because I just did a quick search, and he's referred to as that a couple of times as well.

Also, from what I've read, it sounds like Holt got the nickname from his NC State teammates for his big games against FSU. Apparently they got it from one of James Worthy's nicknames.

The reports that it is a self-annointed name are probably because he had to find a way to bring it to the NFL.

One of my current favorites is the Twins' outfield...the Soul Patrol.

The Nigerian Nightmare...one of my all-time favorites, along with David "Skywalker" Thompson.

Let's not forget the ABA's Wes Bialosuknia...the Typographical Terror.

And Bill Mlkvy, the Owl Without a Vowel.

But yeah, most of the newer nicknames aren't as cool.

In my opinion, the NBA has the best. Here's some that are kind of original, some play off of the players names, but are still clever. Some have already been mentioned.

King James (LeBron James)

The Answer (Allen Iverson)

The Matrix (Shawn Marion)

The Truth (Paul Pierce)

Air Canada (Formerly Vince Carter)

Nick the Quick (Nick Van Exel)

Mighty Mouse (Damon Stoudamire)

Tractor Traylor (Robert Traylor)

The Glove (Gary Payton)

Kandi Man (Michael Olowokandi)

The Mailman (Karl Malone)

Skip to my Lou (Rafer Alston)

White Chocolate (Jason Williams)
