ROCHitman
Please don't disrepect my Orange. There was a segment on Cold PIzza not long ago that featured a writer who wrote a book on mascot names and their origins. That guy knew it all. I can't locate any info on the Cold Pizza Website but the local bookstore may help you find it.But, I did find the Kent Gillery's Texas MascotsHe even has a gallery. Stampman
The Banana Slugs are at UC Santa Cruz and I don't think there are actually sports there. From the UC Santa Cruz Website:Q: What kinds of athletics and intramural programs are there? A: UC Santa Cruz is a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III, competing in men's and women's basketball, soccer, swimming and diving, water polo, tennis, volleyball, and women?s cross country and golf. Also, there is a great list of sports nicknames at the following address:Sports NicknamesIt covers everything, from any pro team that ever existed (even old obscure minor league baseball teams) through college teams down to high school teams across the country. It's presented in a multi-page format with nicknames in alphabetical order. Links are provided to many websites associated with teams or universities.Constantly being updated, as well. I've e-mailed in a few updates myself. I haven't been there for awhile--hopefully he's updated the links--last time I was there I'd say at least 60% of the links I tried didn't work...
