Confirmed: SF Giants road jersey change

There's something that seems really wimpy about the Giants whole visual identity. I can't describe it but it's there.

It's probablly got a lot to do with the town itself and the image it carries more than anything.

then obviously youve never been, not only to San Francisco, but anywhere near the bay area. <_<

What's that supposed to mean? :therock:

Looks like it has been posted on the MLB Shop:

Shark's close-up image of this minor change left me thinking that this was an almost unnoticeable change.

But from a distance, as seen in the MLBshop image, it's more noticable than I thought.

Regardless, I don't like it.

With the gold, they try to keep in unoticable with everyone, because its an added element that from the naked eye will rarely notice it.

Yeah. Gold and cream isn't exactly silver and black.

I think the Giants should do something a little more with the road script. The home wordmark is very bold and hints to the past. Not exactly modern, but better than the previous modern used from the late 1980s until it was replaced by the current one.

But the road lettering seems very passive, it's hard to explain exactly why. Maybe it's because it has to appear smaller to fit across the chest, and looks even smaller with the condensed lettering. I've seen some versions of San Francisco done in a script with a tail, and even though it doesn't match the style used in the home wordmark, I think it would look better on the road jerseys than the current lettering.

It might seem hypocritical of me to say the home retro wordmark works but the road retro wordmark doesn't, but oh well.

The old road uniform was the SF from the hat, in the style of the Yankee pinstripes. But grey. Not pinstriped. I like the Dodger script better.

I think maybe the best way to stay consistant would be to put that script San Fransisco on the road jersey, and then make an alt with the script Giants.

That way the script version has a counterpart, but the great GIANTS custom block isn't abandoned.

the uniform from the "humm baby" era as we called it in the 80s had the monogram SF on the road uniform with piping.

in 1994 when the Giants returned to the original serif style lettering, the road uni script was in fact identical to the home uni script. the one thing that really didnt fit with the idenitity though was the Helvetica numbers that were a holdover from the 80s uniforms.

as far as what is on the current unis though, I feel the block lettering is the way to go, or at least some form of an arched SAN FRANCISCO rather then the script logo all of you want to see on there  . Everyone gripes how it doesnt match the lettering on the home jerseys, but the Yankees, Royals, and Twins seem to pull it off nicely.

Personally, I feel the scripted SAN FRANCISCO doesnt work on a gray road jersey. It would work much better on a black alternate jersey if they ever decide to experiment with that again.

Also from what I see in the merchandise department, they seem to be phasing out the scripted SAN FRANCISCO wordmark.

Actually, when the Giants came out with these uniforms in 2000, the person who did the team actually used the same numbers and letters on both the home and road. The grey actually had three color numbers and letters of black orange and gold. However, the jerseys were corrected to a two color name and number the following year to match the San Francisco wording in the front. As mentioned above, the gold does not show up well on the grey so most people never noticed this unless you saw them up close at a game.
