slapshot
Arena Football League uniforms have corporate sponsor patches on them, and I think the helmets do as well. There's also advertising painted onto the field. You'll also see it in the minor hockey leagues, definitely with patches on the jerseys and sometimes helmet stickers as well. It's no where near as obnoxious as sports outside North America, but the sponsor logos are there. pcgd
Mainly I just ment you'd be hardpressed to find any league outside of the US without corporate sponsors.
zer0dotcom
Oh it stinks. I agree. It will definately affect whether I buy any jerseys again. WIth the ads it will be tacky, but without, it will be "un-authentic." I will never, EVER consider a sports uniform with ads on it, 'authentic' ugh, the thought of the NHL resembling the swedish elite league or other league where uniform ads are the norm is nausiating
amare32
These corporations probably own most of the revenue generating luxury suites for these teams, so they might as well have their name attached to the team as well since they do pay the bills. Can you imagine if that philosophy were applied to our elected officials? I will refrain from presenting an example.

dfwabel
I'm still waiting for Maxi Tampon stadium from BASEketball. Don't look now, but the University of San Diego basketball teams call the Jenny Craig Pavilion home. It's already begun! And your point is? She owns a corporation, which also bears her "name" (Jenny Craig is not her birth name. Facilities are named after politicians or other civic leaders. What buildings on a college campus are NOT named after people or corporations? Maryland plays at the Comcast Center too.
eriqjaffe
Sure, it's not really any different than Comcast Center, or TD Banknorth Arena or Dunkin' Donuts Center. It's the fact that a sports arena's corporate sponsor/namesake is a weight loss program that tends to target itself towards a primarily female demographic. I just found it somewhat ironic, especially in reference to the "Maxi Tampon" joke in BASEketball.

Mac the Knife
I can visualize NFL fields selling the end zones as billboards. And it won't look so different. Instead of running into a big red splotch of ground that has red-and-yellow letters saying "Chiefs", it will be a big red splotch of ground that has red-and-yellow letters saying "McDonald's". Seen a CFL game lately? They're already there, selling 10 yard swaths on the field (I think on the 20's and the 35's if I'm not mistaken).
