NHL Anti Black Project

Might be better if the orange was replaced with more of a gold color. I agree that it is islander-esque.

North Carolina's official colors are red and blue, so maybe there's an option too.

Why not black?

I find it to be a valid color in any design, and it makes the wearer look more imposing and "evil."

And you can't leave the Bruins, Flyers, and 'hawks out of this. Include everyone. Make it a REAL challenge.

The Ottawa Senators:

:puke:, that Ottawa Senators is really ugly, dude you need black in most to balance the colors out. With the Senators that you designed or "recolored", that is bad imo.

How can you get rid of the black in the Hurricanes scheme, when the gale flag icon is part of their identity? Otherside, you have an orange flag with a blue square.

Some teams need to keep the black because it's associated with the non-sports related imagery the team is named for.

The Hurricanes make no sense without the black, especially their secondary storm flag logo. A real-life storm flag is red and black. While their secondary is a bit off for a team called the Hurricanes (they really need two storm flags there, which is what signifies a hurricane), the colour scheme makes perfect sense.

[EDIT: Dangit, slap, why you gotta post while I'm typing my post, huh? :P ]

As for the Sens' logo, it looks like a printing error, or an attempt at printing using spot colour.

Yeah, this thread almost sounds like an agenda to rid the NHL of Jarome Iginla, Anson Carter and Mike Grier...

lol :D

Well, let's run down the (very short) list of would-be-current black NHLers.

Jarome Iginla

Kevin Weekes

Fred Brathwaite

Mike Grier

Anson Carter

Peter Worrell

Jean-Luc Grand-Pierre

...

Feel free to add anyone I missed.

I think what you're trying to do is take out one colour, on the basis that you don't like it, and haven't realised there are other reasons why black was used in team uniforms and logos, not related to just being a colour.

Without knowing that the flag was for a gale, I'd say I prefer the blue and orange verison, though I do think it looks like the Islanders.

Without knowing what the Senators logo should look like, I don't like the pink look.

The way this is going, all you're going to be able to do is replace Black with Navy Blue on every logo.

EDIT: Like the one below.

Oh, and I've got a site.

i put together a recolor concept removing the black from the sens logo and replaced it with a navy blue, darkened the red and gave it a different shade of gold.

i am starting a NHL project agianst black as a primary colour or shade. Boston, chicago and Phileadelphia can keep the balck for tradition.

As you may have noticed in Spyboy's Barberpole Sweater thread, Ottawa was wearing black and red before the NHL was even formed. If you're letting teams keep black based on tradition, Ottawa has a stronger claim than anyone.
