MonkeyWrench32
I'm wondering how everyone feels on this subject with the Cubs & Dodgers dropping the last names. Personally, I think last names should be on every jerseys like the other major sports. It makes things easier with identifying players. I don't see how this "tradition" has any merit to it. Are the Detroit Tigers' home jerseys any less traditional because they have their last names on the back? Not at all.Edit: Oops, I messed up. Can somebody change #2 to "Last names optional on home jerseys (including home alternates), required on roads"?
Joshawaggie
not having last names on the backs of jerseys isnt as much tradition as much as it was "oh, I guess I never thought of that." Its not cuz they though it was better to not haves names I'm sure, it jsut hadnt been done yet. I dont think a jersey looks any worse with the names on it. sacker12
I think that it should be league-wide, but teams like the Yankees and Red Sox should probably be grandfathered under the rule, since they have no names on the back for the sake of tradition. rmackman
The only team that shouldn't have last names on the jerseys are the Yankees. I hate them... but they've always looked good w/o the name.
Bernd
If anything the last name should be on all ROAD jerseys. Why is that not an option?
BRice16
I voted for ALL, but I would have three exceptions. The Yankees and Red Sox have never had names on home jerseys, so they are exempt. The Cubs would also be allowed to go nameless since they only added names in the mid 90's and recently corrected the error. Of course, If I were comissioner, alternate jerseys would be gone all together, so names on them would be a moot point.
MonkeyWrench32
If anything the last name should be on all ROAD jerseys. Why is that not an option? It should have been, but I mistyped it and I can't fix it. I'm waiting for a mod to do their magic.
winghaz
No, the Yankees should not be exempt. All teams should have last names on all uniforms as a matter of providing extra information to the fan. And while I love the Yankee uniform and all the tradition behind it, adding last names on the backs would hardly be a breach of tradition.
slapshot
Road jerseys: names mandatoryHome jerseys: optionalHome fans should know the players on their own team. Road teams you don't see that often, except for divisional opponents.

PackerBadger
Agreed. But $40.5 million per year ($10,000 × 25 players × 162 games) probably is not.
winters in buffalo
You know, when I turn on NASCAR, I see numbers on the cars, but I can't see names (at least none that can be read while the car is moving). There are plenty of other sports that don't have names on uniforms either. I say leave 'em off.

But the names are so small you can't even read the names from the stands. It should be an option some teams with tradition such as the Yanks and the Sox shouldn't have names where teams like Tampa should. Tradition should have a say in the matter. It is one of the Yankees biggest traditions.

hormone
Last names on all. This isn't 1850. They didn't have numbers on the jerseys back in the day, can they pull that off for the sake of "tradition?"
Perfect Zero
Leave them on, and keep them on. It isn't going to kill you to see them on the back. No exceptions, not even to the Yankees.
