Yeah it looked like he was going to the Giants too, but I guess he decided to go back to where he started. You know I think the Pats at one tiem played in BC Stadium too.

The Patriots played at Alumni Stadium in the late 60s or early 70s, it was one season.

During the Flutie era at BC, Alumni Stadium's capacity was only around 30,000, so any huge game that would have drawn a bigger crowd was played in Foxboro. Flutie played two or three BC games at Foxboro.

There may in fact be more than one reason for Flutie being signed. Keep in mind that when he signed with San Diego it was with the intent that he eventually finish his career as part of the coarching staff rather than just a quarterack. He was given a six year contract which would put him at 44 years old. It's highly unlikely for even him to be a quarterback at that age but certainly fine to be a quarterbacks coach or coordinator.

Flutie has already been complemented over the years for being a thinking man's quarterback. He's difficult to defend against, he can anticipate what the other team does, and he's able to encourage players around him to do better. All qualities head coaches look for in their staff. Couple that with the fact that the space left by former Patriots' offense coordinator Charlie Weiss has yet to have a replacement named and you may be seeing an opportunity for Flutie to have his post-playing career established.

This is all of course pure speculation, but I think Flutie would make an excellent mentor for younger players, and he would be an asset to make the scout team something the ever changing Patriots personel can learn from. Plus of course he gets to do all this and he gets to sleep in his own bed at night.

Believe it or not, I still have a box of those. Unopened. From 1998.

I guess I'll have to try to get it autographed now, huh? :P

When I read the Flutie era at BC I first thought of Flutie's first CFL team, the BC Lions--until I relaized you meant Boston College--kind of confused me at first...

i'm glad another team is giving him a shot, but this sucks.

i was actually hoping he'd go back to the CFL with the ti-cats so we could actually see the old guy play again! unless something unfortunate happens to the Golden Boy in NE, he'll probably be toting a clipboard the whole year.

and oh yeah, i just really hate the patriots.
