I've never understood the internet forum word "rediculous."  It's like "genious."  I see these all the time...what am I missing?

Don't start questioning spelling here. If I can find the thread, I'll show you why. Just not worth the time and energy.

Hey now, OMMF, don't be a

what was the reasoning for the california angels in changing to LAA.  :therock:

Read above. It was so they could get a bigger tv contract so they can afford their players in order to be competitive.

yea, but when they were simply the anaheim angels they won a ws.

It's completly ridiculos. Arte Moreno was so worried about expanding his market and fanbase, that he didn't bother do worry about alienating his existing fanbase. Not only that, the name it's self sounds absolutly stupid.

Yeah, he is alienating the HELL out of his fanbase. The last home stand the Angels averaged about 40,000 per game. Yeah, Angels stadium is turning into a ghost town. Face it, the Angels fans couldnt care less if you named the team the SH**hole Angels of HellTown, as long as the team was very competitive and the beer is cheap.

Well I was coming from the position of somone living in southern california. I dare you to go to Angels stadium and find one person who is happy about the name change. Face it, if it were your team you'd be pissed to. I am not going to walk away from my team because it's still the same team, but trust me no one in Anaheim likes it, it's a joke.

Yeah right dude, they are so upset they are staying away from the game in droves. Get off your high horse, if you had any real stones you'd protest the name change by NOT supporting the team, dwindling attendence would show Mr. Moreno how "unhappy" the fans are. I bet if the Angels make it to the series you'd be one of the first screaming "LA Angels rooool".

How about the Florida Marlins of Right on the County Line between Broward and Miami-Dade. That's a mouthful.

"Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up. It knows it must run faster than the fastest lion or it will be eaten. Every morning in Africa, a lion wakes up. It knows it must outrun the slowest gazelle or it will starve. It doesn't matter whether you're a lion or a gazelle. When the sun comes up, you'd better be running." - Unknown | 🌐 Check out my articles on jerseys at Bacon Sports 🔗

That was one year however. Despite the fact they had the 3rd highest attendance last year and being in the second largest TV market they have on of the lowest tv contracts (I believe it is close to the Brewers). On top of that their television partner decided to drop them in favor of the Dodgers. Without a good television contract they won't be able to continue to sign big free agents like Vlad and can't keep up with the Yankees and Red Sox. If they go by LA (which they can because they are located in the LA metro area), they become more attractive to television stations and can get more money. On top of that they can get a better national exposure and that can lead to more revenue. Because when people here Anaheim they think small market, when you here LA you think big market. Thus LA is more attractive especially nationally. That's why they took Anaheim off the road unis, and I would guess not put LA on if they win the suit, they want to build a national following. It's the same reason the Dodgers had Dodgers on both for nearly 40 years and why the Angels pre-2002 juast had Angels on both.

If they remain Anaheim then they might have that one year of success but with LA they ectra revenue could lead to multiple years of success and championships.

And here's something that is growing to be almost as established and played-out as "hehehe what about the THIS CITY of THAT CITY whoahahaha!":

Scripts on road jerseys do not alienate non-local fans, or at least any non-local fans worth having.

I'm not saying it does. The Yankees have a large national following yet they have NEw York on the roads. However Moreno has said that he whats to build the Angels brand and would just sell them as the Angels. The Los Angeles part would be for broadcasters.

Oh shut up, Moreno. It's not a "brand." it's a team. In the United States, sports teams' names are constructed of the city or general area in which they play, and a nickname. That includes you. Screw your brand.

True story:

I was with a friend of mine watching his kid's Little League game last week.  The next game featured a team wearing the Angels' "A" on their caps.  At some point in talking w/my friend I called the team the Angels, but I was quickly corrected by a 9-year old, "No sir!  We're the Los Angeles Angels of Raleigh."

Cracked me up.

holy goodness! THAT means that I was once upon a time a Los Angeles Angel of Anaheim circa South Columbus...

So let's go LAAASC!

Why, it's no different than the Yankees, Red Sox and Dodgers. You can see those teams have built brands and in the case of the Dodgers they up untill a few years ago had their nickname on their road jersey. All Moreno wants is that for his team. He's not going to drop the general area name. If it was up to him the Of Anaheim part would be gone.

I would support the team regardless, but it was still a bullplop move on part of Arte Moreno. The whole reason I am pissed about the whole thing is because it's a joke. I hate having to watch sportscenter and watch them talk about what laughing stock it is, all because arte wanted to reach out to a market that didn't even want him. Like I said before if it happend to your team you'd be pissed off to.

I can attest, no matter how pissed you are about a team / organization, it is tough to stay away. It sux giving money to a organization that you hate, but once you become a fan (usually when you are young) it is just tough to sever the ties, no matter what kind of sh_t they pull. Trust me, I'm a Phillies fan, and they are one of the worst organizations in the history of all sports. It's just not as easy as "stay home." I'd think that most people who live in big-league cities know what I'm saying.

"The views expressed here are mine and do not reflect the official opinion of my employer or the organization through which the Internet was accessed."

The Angels are never gonna be nationally popular. Sorry. They don't have an abundance of world championships and pennants like the Yankees, they don't have the tradition and lore of the Red Sox and Cubs, they don't have the divisional dominance and broadcast ubiquitousness of the Braves. No matter what they do, the Angels are doomed to be in the shadow of the Dodgers.

Don't "establish a brand." Market to Southern California. Los Angeles Angels, Anaheim Angels, Orange County Angels, who cares? Pick one, logically Los Angeles, and stick with it. Forget this mass-appeal "Angels Baseball." They can't be the Dodgers and they won't be the Dodgers.
