It knows it must run faster than the fastest lion or it will be eaten. Every morning in Africa, a lion wakes up. It knows it must outrun the slowest gazelle or it will starve. rmackman Posted May 5, 2005 Author Posted May 5, 2005 I don't know why, but every time I see that particular photo of Kirby Puckett (and I have many a time) I just think of adding a speech baloon that says, "THEY HAVE DONUTS IN THE DUGOUT!!! YEAAAH!" Maybe that's his secret motivation? Hehe...he was still a badass ballplayer. "Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up. LEWJ Posted May 5, 2005 Posted May 5, 2005 Whatever happened to him (Kirby Puckett), wasn't it like, he started having vision problems or something so he was, kinda, forced to retire???By the way, I remember getting this book when I was, like, 8 yrs. old, it came with a ball that had marks that told you exactly where to hold the ball, and it had really, like, cheapo directions on how to throw a curve, slider, and fastball. It was pretty cool. | BROWNS | BUCKEYES | CAVALIERS | INDIANS |

OnWis97 Posted May 7, 2005 Posted May 7, 2005 Kirby got beaned in the eye by a Dennis Martinez pitch (Indians ) Career over, glaucoma in the eye. now he is an official Macys Thanksgiving Blimp. You're not kidding. I loved Kirby Pucket, from when he broke in with the powder blue unis in 1985 to the time he was inducted in the hall of fame. What has become of him, though, is just disturbing. There are bizzare stories out there about threats and abuse toward his now ex-wife. He was accused of groping a woman in a public bathroom. Etc.Kirby was a great, hard-working ball player that made his teammates better. He was great with the media. He was everything right with baseball. It was an important lesson for me about athletes and athletes vs. athletes as people. He was a great professional, but a scumbag as a person. So be it. It is an important lesson on hero-worship. That said, my athletes are:Baseball: Past--Kirby Puckett (athletes, not people), Ricky Henderson, Paul Molitor Present--Johan Santana (go figure, eh?), Torii HunterBasketball: Past--David Robinson, Michael Jordan Present--KG, DuncanFootball: Past--Barry Sanders, Boomer Esiason, Cris Carter, Robert Smith, Ron Dayne (College past, so many good memories and such a good college back. So bad now, cannot put him in "present" Present--Nobody really comes to mind. No vikings I really like. Go former Badgers (Lee Evens, Micheal Bennet, Erasmus James, etc.)Hockey: Past--Neal Broten, Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux, Present--Jordan Leopold (Hobey winner from my high school) Disclaimer: If this comment is about an NBA uniform from 2017-2018 or later, do not constitute a lack of acknowledgement of the corporate logo to mean anything other than "the corporate logo is terrible and makes the uniform significantly worse."
