...with black alti's? I like black alti's.

you think every team should have their alternate uniforms be the same color?

i've got no problems with black alternates for teams that use black in their color scheme traditionally..... just adding one thin black line to your home or road jersey does not justify a black alternate jersey (i'm looking in your direction, lions...)

but the chicago blackhawks? that's awesome looking. the baltimore ravens? i don't like it, but they've got every right to wear it... as long as black is a legit part of the color scheme, you'll hear no complaints from me.

one part tradition, one part aesthetic. as said before, if black is a legit color in your scheme, you have every right to use a black jersey. and while it looks bad on the Mets and Royals, it looks even worse when college teams with no black on their normal uniforms break out black (can you say Tennessee State...or, and I hate to say it cus they rule, Mount Union?)

how about U-Tenn. I saw their roadies on TV vs. UFla. and they were gray with black sleves...and they dont even use black

Actually for UT the Black is a baseball only color thing. The Baseball team relies heavily on black because, let's face it, the Creamsicle Orange looks horrible as a baseball jersey. Their basic unis are these:

With a pinstripe variation. The Black tops are used on away trips and even then very rarely.

They do the same thing with baby blue and their women's athletic teams.

I think the women's softball team uses an all baby blue uniform sometimes:

However, that might just be the grays looking a little different.

I can chime in on UT's black on the roadie football. The TV networks along with the NCAA requested that the Vols add a black outline to the #'s on the road uniforms due to they were hard to pick up on television.

I have a bunch of Vol games on tape from the 80's to the mid 90's right before the change and they are impossible to pick up from a distance. Tennessee is didn't want to do it, Phillip Fulmer threw a fit but in the end the Vols did it. I don't care for the black on the roadies but at least they didn't change the homes, then I would have been upset.

Black is a fine color, and if it is part of a team's traditional color scheme, then fine.

Very few teams wore a predominance of black before the pro leagues expanded.

But when the NBA expanded in the late '80s, 2 of the 4 teams made black their primary color (Miami, Orlando). A 3rd (Minnesota) followed after a few years. In baseball, all 4 of the latest expansion teams used black as a dominant color, or still do. Same for football - excluding the 'expansion' Cleveland Browns who adopted the colors their first incarnation wore for over half a century before leaving town, only the Texans did NOT use black as a primary color.

Since expansion teams sell merchandise, the other teams hopped on the bandwagon. Now it's to the point where teams like the Eagles (1933) and Lions (1934), who've had the same main colors for 70 years, have allowed black to evolve from non-existant... to trim color... to alternate jersey color.

It's become a copycat phenomenon that has reached a state of saturation. Teams with colors in their name (hello, Cincinnati REDS and Toronto BLUE Jays) now feel the need to don black as a main color.

Enough is enough. Leave black to the teams that have worn it as part of their historical identity. Make your own colors distinguished - the A's moved to Oakland, adopted green and gold, and tweaked them over the years into a distinctive and classy look.

"Start spreading the news... They're leavin' today... Won't get to be a part of it... In old New York..."

In order for the Mets' run of 12 losses in 17 games to mean something, the Phillies still had to win 13 of 17.

I know Astro but I figured someone would ask sooner or later on why the football team has black. I have seen the baseball uniforms and the black dosen't work for me. Talk about odd colors the women's sports all have baby/powder blue in their color scheme.
