Fanatic's Houston Rocket Concept

STL FANATIC

Recommended Posts

I was just about to post this in Starchild's thread, but I didn't want to infringe on his topic of suggestions for his logo. I know AAO posted his, but I think he was mostly trying to show a style for Starchild of a Rocket. I actually want comments on my design. So this has selfish and nonselfish motivations behind it...anyways...

Here's a logo I first drew on paper about three years ago.

Last nite some odd motivation hit me and I finally got it into Illustrator. I still have another design that I did about a week ago that I may do some other time too.

Anyways, this logo is supposed to be it's own unique identity, but encompass elements from all of their past logos (save the current one because they didn't have it when I made this).

I like just about all of it, but I would have to agree with PhilaLogos on the font. The 'T' really looks out of place. I know that's kind of how it was on their original logo/unis, but that's how it looks to me.

I really like it, but it just looks a bit too cartoony for me.

I agree. I can tell you, we would not embrace that logo, it looks too much like something a local restruant would use.

Would that local restruant perhaps be called McDonalds? ^_^

Fair enough. I like that part of it though. Two of the three primaries the (Houston) Rockets had had up to that point (meaning ignore their current) featured a cartoony style. My goal was to tie their history together into a style semi modern looking logo.

I think I accomplished my goal. Whether or not it would accomplish the ultimate goal of fan approval...well maybe not.

You totally did, and its an intresting composition, to say the least.

i was just wondering about how long do concepts take you?

Well this is kind of an abnormal one to answer your question on.

I did the pencil/paper drawing for this one about 3 years ago. I don't remember, but if I had to guess, I was probably able to have it on paper within an hour.

I never got around to doing it on the computer till.

That was until 2 nights ago. For whatever reason, I got motivated to find it and finish it up.

I scanned it in, and then did all the things I needed to do with it in Illustrator, and I'd say it probably took me 2-3 hours...probably somewhere right in the middle.

There's really no set time though. Once I get an idea in my head for something, I can usually get it on paper with pencil in a fairly short amount of time. Then, once I scan it in and am ready to put it in Illustrator, the time all depends on how complex the logo is. And this is assuming all I'm doing is one logo.

So, I can do a concept within a few hours, but a lot of times it will take me days or more because a logo can be so complex that I have to keep taking breaks.

I just noticed something STL, your watermark looks alot like the Frenchy's restruant logo, maybe thats where I was getting that vibe from... ^_^

Heh. Well, mine is just the F from my personal logo which is the font Brush Script MT. I've never been a fan of that F actually, and eventually I'm gonna change it. I just needed a quick watermark, so I went with that.
