Pacers Logo Concepts

I put together two very different Indiana Pacers logos. The problem with a Pacers idea is that it's a basketball team named primarily after a car race. So you don't want too much car in there or it's confusing. Without the car, though, what is a Pacer, anyway?

So I tried one with a little Indy and another with speed as the concept.

The second set is far superior. Me likey.

If I were to suggest something, I might say to darken the blue. Of course, that's only if I suggested something. :D

I'm feeling the first set. The second set kinda gives me an ABA vibe... granted the Pacers were an ABA franchise, but lets leave that in the past. ^_^

The only suggestions I might have is to first darken the blue, and maybe add another color in there. The blue and yellow alone have always seemed kinda flat to me (which is why I added gold in my Pacers concept), so maybe the addition of a gold, lighter yellow, darker blue or something might make it pop.

So I have one vote for the 1st set and 1 for the second set. Such contrasting views.

Looks like a darker blue is wanted, which I can see working here.

I agree on the darker blue. But just to throw a monkey wrench into things... I like the second set, but I wonder if there would be some way to work in the checker motif from the first set into that. Maybe just a little bit somewhere, but I can't seem to figure where it would be best right now.

Also, the second set should probably have "Indiana" in there somewhere as well.

I like em both. I think that it is time for them to take the P logo down a notch and focus more on something else.

i like the first set a lot. love the checkered-flag influence.

i would also darken the blue a touch, though. and, it might just be me, but at first glance i thought the secondary logo read "JP". not sure if im crazy or if you would want to fix that.

otherwise, very slick concept here.

I personally don't see why they both couldn't have a part in the same identity with some minor modifications, but if I had to pick one, I'd pick the first.

A modification I'd make to the second would be to lose the thin white outline on the PACERS. That's too many outlines for me.

And I would strongly advise against adding a dark blue or darkening the blue. I don't think a dark blue would truely add anything, so why add a color that isn't needed, and there are far too many teams in sports who have gone away from a royal blue (and yellow for that matter). I know the Pacers are sitting with navy right now, but bring them back to royal. Be unique.

The first set is far superior. Too many teams cop out and use "speed" as a motif when they cannot think of anything else. Your first set looks classic and modern at the same time. Great font choice and treatment. Would you mind me asking what font it is? A darker blue is needed though, and maybe a richer, more golden yellow.

The only other thing besides a car i can think of is a horse like a pacer or trotter.

At first glance, I liked the second logo better. Then I noticed the checkered flag in the first logo and liked it better. THen I noticed the second logo has the basketball going around in a circular track. If you could somehow fuse the checkered flag idea in with the track swirl, I think you'd have a really good concept.

I'd take the second wordmark and put it on the circle crest of the first set. (Might need to recolour it accordingly, and maybe take out the italicization, as it looks a little too warped with it.) Not a fan of the motion lines. Definitely a fan of the checkers. In fact, it seems silly to use secondaries that are just the ball, without the checkers.

I used speed for the motif because a pace car goes fast. For the font, it is custom. Just took a boring condensed font and added a few things. For the colors, I had no idea they looked so pale. At work I have a new LCD monitor and I guess I need to calibrate it. At home I see what y'all are seeing. Paleness.

Yeah, I'm not nuts about the first logos' secondary marks. Maybe they need more thought. I just wanted something simple. Something you could toss on a hat, perhaps.

My head is spinning from all the legitimate comments liking one or the other. I seem to have split the vote.

The primary mark from the first set is the best, but the secondary marks are pretty weak. The second set fits togther better, but none of the marks stand out as anything great.

Try Mockba's suggestion for the primary, and then work on some new secondary marks.

I think he's on to something there.

Someone mentioned a track...and it got me thinking...

What if you left the old basketball in the P and combined it with your first logo...but instead of a circle around it, you would have an oval with a thin row of checkers to represent the brickyard? Just throwing out ideas. I personally see nothing wrong with the current logo, but news on the boards make it sound like a change is in the works. Also, on the second one, Indiana does not appear anywhere.
