Picking apart The Longest Yard

With the upcoming release of the remake of The Longest Yard, I thought it would be appropriate to take a look at the unis worn by both the Guards and the Cons in the movie and pick them apart...

CONS #1: Cheeseburger Eddy (Terry Alan Crews)

CONS #2: Deacon Moss (Michael Irvin)

GUARDS #1: Guard Garner (Brian Bosworth)

GUARDS #1: Guard Lambert (Bill Romanowski)

I couldn't find a good shot of the Guards' helmets, but I believe the logo on the pants in Bosworth photo is the same as would be on the helmet.

For me, both sets are kinda plain, but clean and something I would have no objection to seeing on an NFL field. I'm not a big fan of the red "cuts" on the Cons' numbers. It's interesting to see that the wordmark-under-the-collar has made its way to prison football too. And the Reebok logo front and centre on the Cons' unis ? gotta love product placement.

those uniforms are cool, but I really doubt that prison guards and especially prisons would or could pay for uniforms that nice, and four professional wrestlers in one movie can't be a record, did you ever see ready to rumble?

Yeah, I did see Ready to Rumble, but part of me wishes I hadn't.

I noticed in the previews, Paul Crewe (played by Adam Sandler) wears #18 in this edition of The Longest Yard, compared to the previous version when Crewe (played by Burt Reynolds) wore #22.

I think I've seen trailers where Reynolds' character enters the game at some point, and I'll betcha he's wearing 22 when he does. Plus his 'inmate number' on the movie's website is #6489-22.

I remember back in '74, when I was like 9, my 15 year-old uncle somehow actually had one of those jerseys-- I think it was a promotional deal he won or something.

What I wouldn't give to find that in my Grandma's attic today.....

Just noticed something else too ... there are a lot of guys in there with the same numbers. There are two Xs, two 23s, two 18s, two 00s ? must be stunt doubles.

I don't know why those guys are wearing X, but one of the guys wearing it is Goldberg. Look... he blinked!

Are the guards' uniforms suppose to be white with black numbers and trim like the original movie? I ask only because to me the numbers look almost deep navy blue like the Chicago Bears.

Gotta feel a little sorry for the cons. They're wearing an all black uniform in the middle of the desert of western Texas? They'll be roasting for sure.

The shot of Reynolds in the team photo looks fake.
