officeglenn Posted May 17, 2005 Posted May 17, 2005 With the upcoming release of the remake of The Longest Yard, I thought it would be appropriate to take a look at the unis worn by both the Guards and the Cons in the movie and pick them apart...CONS #1: Cheeseburger Eddy (Terry Alan Crews)CONS #2: Deacon Moss (Michael Irvin)GUARDS #1: Guard Garner (Brian Bosworth)GUARDS #1: Guard Lambert (Bill Romanowski)I couldn't find a good shot of the Guards' helmets, but I believe the logo on the pants in Bosworth photo is the same as would be on the helmet. For me, both sets are kinda plain, but clean and something I would have no objection to seeing on an NFL field. I'm not a big fan of the red "cuts" on the Cons' numbers. It's interesting to see that the wordmark-under-the-collar has made its way to prison football too. And the Reebok logo front and centre on the Cons' unis ? gotta love product placement.(As an aside ... four pro wrestlers [steve Austin, Kevin Nash, Bill Goldberg and Bob Sapp] in one movie? That's got to be some kind of record.)
mac Posted May 17, 2005 Posted May 17, 2005 (As an aside ... four pro wrestlers [steve Austin, Kevin Nash, Bill Goldberg and Bob Sapp] in one movie? That's got to be some kind of record.)those uniforms are cool, but I really doubt that prison guards and especially prisons would or could pay for uniforms that nice, and four professional wrestlers in one movie can't be a record, did you ever see ready to rumble?

If you did, I'm pretty sure you were the only one.
MJWalker45 Posted May 17, 2005 Posted May 17, 2005 One of the cons must have been in for money laundering. Their uni's are better then the guards. Β Β

Yeah, I did see Ready to Rumble, but part of me wishes I hadn't.
Cujo Posted May 17, 2005 Posted May 17, 2005 I noticed in the previews, Paul Crewe (played by Adam Sandler) wears #18 in this edition of The Longest Yard, compared to the previous version when Crewe (played by Burt Reynolds) wore #22.
lost_limey Posted May 17, 2005 Posted May 17, 2005 I'm thinking that's because more people regard 1-19 as QB Numbers now.

I think I've seen trailers where Reynolds' character enters the game at some point, and I'll betcha he's wearing 22 when he does. Plus his 'inmate number' on the movie's website is #6489-22.EDIT: Yup, Reynolds does wear 22. Check out the team photo here. Reynolds is in the bottom right corner.
scar988 Posted May 17, 2005 Posted May 17, 2005 I just noticed this but Romo looks like HEnry Winkler on roids. RIP #55 JUNIOR SEAUOwner of ScarDraft.comBleacher Report NFL Featured Columnist

The idea of that crossed my mind when I noticed Sandler wasn't wearing 22, knowing Reynolds was in the film.
Gamingboy Posted May 17, 2005 Posted May 17, 2005 those uniforms are cool, but I really doubt that prison guards and especially prisons would or could pay for uniforms that nice,Maybe at this prison they make football jerseys instead of licence plates.. Insert Witty Signature Here.
ebod39 Posted May 17, 2005 Posted May 17, 2005 is it symbolic irony that the NFL players who are "guards" have had their ownbrushes with the law? where's L.T. and O.J?
dwertman Posted May 17, 2005 Posted May 17, 2005 (As an aside ... four pro wrestlers [steve Austin, Kevin Nash, Bill Goldberg and Bob Sapp] in one movie? That's got to be some kind of record.) I read a interview somewhere, where Steve Austin said hes in this movie for like 45 seconds Kings Cross AFC -BIP, Winnipeg Falcons - TNFF, St. Louis ArchersΒ - MLF Β
quantum Posted May 17, 2005 Posted May 17, 2005 It looks like Reynolds was photoshopped in after the fact. "One of my concerns is shysters show up and take advantage of people's good will and generosity".
B-Rich Posted May 17, 2005 Posted May 17, 2005 Call me an old fart, but give me the basic 1974 Mean Machine jersey any day:I remember back in '74, when I was like 9, my 15 year-old uncle somehow actually had one of those jerseys-- I think it was a promotional deal he won or something. What I wouldn't give to find that in my Grandma's attic today..... It is what it is.
officeglenn Posted May 17, 2005 Author Posted May 17, 2005 It looks like Reynolds was photoshopped in after the fact. Indeed it does.Just noticed something else too ... there are a lot of guys in there with the same numbers. There are two Xs, two 23s, two 18s, two 00s ? must be stunt doubles.I don't know why those guys are wearing X, but one of the guys wearing it is Goldberg. Look... he blinked!
waggie Posted May 17, 2005 Posted May 17, 2005 I noticed Reynolds does look photoshopped in the group pic too. @josh_j12 CFA- Fargo Bobcats
Bleujayone Posted May 17, 2005 Posted May 17, 2005 Are the guards' uniforms suppose to be white with black numbers and trim like the original movie? I ask only because to me the numbers look almost deep navy blue like the Chicago Bears. Gotta feel a little sorry for the cons. They're wearing an all black uniform in the middle of the desert of western Texas? They'll be roasting for sure. We all have our little faults. Mine's in California.

The shot of Reynolds in the team photo looks fake.
