Recommended Posts

I like this idea, hope it happens, but if the Saints move, they must change their name, LA Saints doesnt sound good, but LA Chargers sounds good to me

it should be the Los angeles Chargers and the OC Mischa Bartons. :P

The OC Mischa Bartons? Hell No! It should be The OC/Anaheim/Los Angeles/Compton Breakers!

In Spanish and Italian-speaking areas, Don is a title of respect and courtesy which preceeds a gentleman's name (i.e. Don Diego Vega, Don Quijote, Don Giovanni, etc.).

Yeah, true, but... in this case "Dons" has nothing to do with that.

When the AAFC team was founded in 1946, its ownership group couldn't come up with a name that tied closely to the L.A. market either. As a lark they decided to give the team a tentative name, dubbing it the "Dons" in honor of minority shareholder/actor Don Ameche. The name, however, stuck, and wasn't replaced for the duration of the franchise's existence.

Well, I wouldn't say that the Los Angeles Dons' identity package had "nothing to do with that".

Although the Los Angeles Dons' name may have been inspired by that of part-owner Don Ameche, it very quickly became closely tied to the Los Angeles market through the team's logos which featured the image of a Spanish gentleman.

With the exception of the Chargers since the they started in L.A. if a team moved to Los Angeles (be it the Saints, Vikings Jets ect.), they would probably need a new identity. For colors I'd pick the Los Angeles city flag. For a nickname, that's a little harder to come up with. I had a few ideas though (who doesn't around here?)

...........................

California Condors- The state bird of California which is also making a comeback of extinction. Since the bird is actually called that, the "Los Angeles" part can be dropped. Plus it helps avoid all the "L.A. of Anaheim" crap should they move about. After that they can move to Fresno and keep the name.

Los Angeles Rumble- Kind of earthquake related and refers to a big fight which is what football sometimes looks like anyway

Los Angeles Scorpions- The sands outside L.A. have plenty of them running about.

Califonia Stallions- (form the Last Boyscout) One of the coolest logo/helmet combos even if it was just a team of fiction just needed a bit of color

Los Angeles Aztecs- Ancient warriors of the area, but not as likely with San Diego State having the same name.

Los Angeles Toros- Bulls in Spanish. Probably unlikely since the Texans have a bull logo.

Los Angeles Zorros - Foxes in Spanish. One of America's first comic book heroes who was based in colonial Los Angeles (or at least what it would become someday) A bit silly I grant you, but I thought about nicknames that might reflect the region's Latino hertitage. If not the hero, than perhaps just the foxes themselves

Los Angeles Ghostriders- Western related and I always thought the name sounded cool anyway.

...............................

Any ideas?

We all have our little faults. Mine's in California.

May sound a little high-schoolish, but L.A. Lancers? Lot's of cool logo / mascot possibilities.

Look, there isn't going to be a team in the LA area until there is an actual stadium that the NFL approves of, which means LA is going to be teamless for a minimum of 5, more likely 10 years.

Not necessarily. So long as a stadium that would meet the NFL's approval moves forward with construction/renovation, I would imagine that the league would okay the placement of a team in a temporary facility. They probably wouldn't place a team there based upon speculation, but once all hurdles are cleared, I'm sure they'd hasten the placement of a team there before the approved facility is complete.

For me, yes, it sounded well.

Los Angeles in Castilian (I refused to call it as "Spanish") means "The Angels". So Saints is a heavenly nickname...

Hell, let's kick that nick!

Instead of Los Angeles Saints, how about the Los Angeles Crusaders?

I think L.A. needs an NFL team, But they don't need to play in the L.A. Coliseum or the Rose Bowl. oh, I think they need to play at Compton where there is a lot of activity and the Bloods and Crips can fight like european soccer fans
