New Logo

There's a pic of it. I like it. It's better than their old one...the view of the bull's head was weird, and the way the horn was positioned made it look like something was sprouting from its chin. The more I look at their new one (the bull, specifically), the more it looks like a Zephyr X-Line hat design...which isn't necessarily a bad thing, just something I noticed...

It's decent, though I'd rather see the bull's head seperate, rather than in that shield.

A little odd to give the U horns and set it off by itself, given that it stands for "University."

Well, using a letter "U" as a logo seems to have been fairly well accepted by USF's neighbors in Coral Gables.

But that's not to say I don't agree with you because I do. I think a "U" logo for a school that doesn't have a "U" in its name (other than University) is kind of lame. I'm hoping Miami will eventually see fit to put the "ibis in a blender" logo on its helmet someday. They've messed around with every other facet of their uniform already, so why not the helmet as well? Orange facemasks would be nice, too.

Im sorry that is terrible.

There is no depth, the mouth looks retarded, and the shield is weak.

who did this, the bobcats designers in chicago, or worse, phoenix??

I think i could do a much better job while drunk.

I don't hate it.  I like the USF wordmark.  Looks wierd in the shield, but by itself it isn't bad.  USF has a history of having their logos contained in a random shape.  They had a diamond shape(sort of) and now they have a shield.  Could have been better, or it could have been their old logo, which sucked.

From the article about the new logo:

The chosen logos and word marks were designed by the Silverman Group, a full-service strategic brand development agency in New Haven, Conn. Silverman Group?s clients include the Tampa Bay Lightning, Dallas Stars, Washington Capitals, World Cup Soccer, Women?s World Cup and the United States Tennis Association.

double post.  These happen a lot to me.

The Silverman Group has done a lot of logos.  NHL 75, Orlando Rage, Starter,  Sacramento RiverCats(some of the best selling minor league baseball gear is for the RiverCats), Mockba Dynamo, and tons others.  See the link for pics of their work.  You'll recognize a lot of it.

i dont know if anyone notice it or not but the bulls shield logo kinda reminds me of the North Dallas Bulls logo in the move "North Dallas Forty",but i like the shield logo, and it would be cool tif the had that logo on the football helmets this season :)

I like it, there was something about the gradation in the old logo that always bothered me. This also kicks over any of the concepts we saw from Phoenix Designs early attempts (info abouth those was posted here a while ago).

Well, there's a difference in changing a logo from one that needs an update to a (sometimes) better one and changing a logo that doesn't really need updating to another one, and one that is less effective than the previous...

...did that make any sense?

I happen to think that USF's old logo was very nicely designed. The whole "horn sprouting from chin" phenomenon that 49erfan15 refers to was a result of the designer(s) utilizing a rather unique perspective: "looking" up, as if at a bull looming over you. To me, that was part of the old logo's attraction; it didn't look like everything else out there.

As for the new logo, I love the new word/secondary marks featuring the "Horned U"... both the USF and BULLS applications. I could be wrong, but I don't think that you'll see the university ever use the "Horned U" as a stand alone. It strikes me that the only reason it was used that way in the animation for the unveiling, was to slowly build suspense. Unless of course USF's "Big Time College Football" envy of a certain intrastate football program leads them to follow that school's ridiculous use of a "U" on their helmets.

As for the primary mark, the bull is a bit cartoonish and the USF within the shield isn't as prominent as I would like. However, it isn't terrible. I've certainly seen FAR worse. I suppose that given my enthusiasm for the old logo, my perfect identity package would be a combination of that mark along with the new "Horned U" word marks.

By the way, I missed the thread featuring Phoenix's proposals for USF. Anybody have those?
