Which race will you be watching this weekend?

Well gentlemen, this is a really big weekend for auto racing. Two Memorial Day weekend traditions take centerstage this weekend.

For the IRL, open wheel fans there is the biggest auto race in American racing, the Indianapolis 500. A race that has brought racing fan families together since 1911. One of the favorites to win is female rookie Danica Patrick, who will start 4th as well as former winner "Spiderman" Helio Castroneves. Last years winner Buddy Rice will not race because of a spinal injury suffered in a practice crash 2 weeks ago. The Indy 500 is just as prestigious as its stock car cousin, the Daytona 500 and there has been a lot said about Patrick the last few weeks, so can she set the standard and be a new trend setter in women competing in motor sports? Only time can tell.

And for the NASCAR pubilc, there is the longest event of the year, the Coke 600 from Lowe's in Charlotte. 400 laps, 600 miles. It starts in the daylight and ends in the nightlight and 43 of the toughest drivers in the longest, endurance stock car race in America. Jimmie Johnson is the defending winner and has won the last two 600 events. Mark Martin has won before and won the All Star race, so he has a lot of momentum coming in. This is the most exciting night points race that NASCAR has all year, so it should be a great Memorial Day weekend of racing.

C & C is welcome on either or both events.

As has been the case for the last 10 Memorial Day weekends, I have 1,100 miles of racing to watch on Sunday. I watch 'em both.

Ditto. I have 3 must-watch races on my calendar all year: Daytona 500, Indy 500, and Coca-Cola 600.

As been the case for the last 17 years, I wont watch any of them. :D

Both for me. The more racing, the better :)

Um, none of the above. Racing sucks.

(Danica Patrick is kinda hot though.)

I wont watch either as well, well at least thats the plan anyways.

And yes Danica is easy on the eyes, but the question is.Can she survive at Indy longer then Sara Fisher has in her outings? :D

I think so, unlike Sarah she actually has a driveable car and is 4th on the grid.

But she's still a rookie so I'm goin' with Scott Sharp. Or Hornish if he wrecks Turn 1 Lap 1 again.

Yep, same here. I have never watched a race and I hope I never will.

C) None of the above

As for Danica Patrick, I'd park my race car in her garage anyday. ^_^

I used to love watching the Indy 500, but not so much now, mainly because of the IRL. Even with Danica Patrick, I don't think I can't stop and watch any IRL race. I can't actually see her face during the race anyways.....

I normally watch any road course type races whether it be F1, Champ Car or even NASCAR road races. That's where the real driving races are run. Maybe the atmosphere at an oval is better, but for a purely TV watching experience, I get more excited watching a road course type race.

I saw, I came, I left.

Believe it or not my 6th grade math and science teacher was related to Sarah. I kid you not.

Also Im not much into racing so Im not going to watch the CocaCola race but Ill be spending my day with my friend AT the Indy 500. This will be my third 500.

None, to me Auto Racing is not a sport. The racers are not athletes, the cars do all the work.

why do you come into a tread just to start controversy?

i WOULD watch both of them, but i'm goin to the Jays game in the afternoon, so ill probably just watch the 600.

My predictions:

Sam Hornish wins the Indy 500 (then jumps to NASCAR next year).

Ryan Newman wins the Coke 600.

Well she finished 4th and led 18 laps, all while running 40 laps to the end without a pit stop, so what does that tell you?

BTW: Dan Wheldon won the race, giving team co-owner Michael Andretti his first Indy win.

Danica Patrick is the truth. Even though there were many times where either she made a mistake or luck didn't go her way where she could've won. But that was a great race, if Wheldon and Patrick had ran one more lap, it would've been a DNF for those two because they both ran out of gas minutes after the race.

I'm very impressed to say the least. Although Danica made two critical mistakes on the track, she was able to get over them and finish well. I've been a Sam Hornish Jr. fan for several years now but I've found my new "fav" to root for. In fact, i'm looking forward to the IRL coming to Watkins Glen in September so I can meet Patrick (I work security at the track) and possibly buy a #16 Argent hat.
