TwoRsAndTwoLs Posted May 31, 2005 Posted May 31, 2005 So I decided I didn't like the words "Bay" nor "Devil" anymore. Font is "Ecliptic," but partially modified. I'm thinking I'd keep the cap pretty much the same, changing the "TB" to a "TR" as below. Every Fifth Day is a
KennyRock Posted May 31, 2005 Posted May 31, 2005 Okay, I really like this concept, and I think "Tampa Rays" is a nice way to clean up the name. However, the teams plays in the county of St. Petersburg, part of the actual city of Tampa Bay. Tampa by itself is just another county of Tampa Bay, if I remember correctly. The point of all that is, while I like Tampa, I think they'd want to keep the city name, not the county one. The city of Tampa is in Hillsborough County, with Tampa Bay running between Pinellas and Hillsborough. There is no actual city of Tampa Bay, it is just a reference to the region.
sp0rtsguy13 Posted May 31, 2005 Posted May 31, 2005 I dont like how it is Tampa Rays, not because of the location of the team with the counties ro whatever as previously mentioned. When your saying I'm going to Tampa, its sounds fine. But when your saying it in terms of sports teams it doesnt sound right. Tampa Buccaneers, Tampa Lighting, Tampa Devil Rays/ Rays. See my point?(unless its just me). Eliminating Devil is alright, and the font is ok, its not terrible but I think with their current jerseys and probably with yours the current font looks better.Overall its a nice concept, and the idea for elminiating the words in an interesting idea, but I like the real thing better. BBTV Posted June 1, 2005 Posted June 1, 2005 At first glance I thought I was looking at Comic Sans!Anyway, I agree with you shortening the nickname to Rays, and I'm indifferent on the Tampa / TB thing. I'm not really a fan of this concept, I think you could have made it a little less "cartoony" (I couldn't think of a better word for it.) That font just doesn't look major league, nor does it really apply to this team. Not that a font has to, but this definately doesn't.Also, IMO a four letter name just doesn't work on the front of a jersey unless it is done like the Reds. 4 letters just isn't enough to spell out without it looking awkward. Yankj1 Posted June 1, 2005 Posted June 1, 2005 I have to say that there is Nothing wrong with their current jerseys. I think that they are one of the best in the majors. Especially considering the horrendous jerseys which they had, when the first entered the league. My MSN jersey group
uniguy22 Posted June 1, 2005 Posted June 1, 2005 Your primary logos font is different than the font on the jerseys which I don't think looks good. Plus i like the name TB Devilrays.

TwoRsAndTwoLs Posted June 1, 2005 Author Posted June 1, 2005 Haha, no I wouldn't dare use comic sans....I just think "Tampa Bay" looks really crowded on the front of their away jerseys, especially once you consider the double outline and the fact that the M and P in "Tampa" are now the same letter... For the last couple years I just haven't been able to read it.I could re-do the primary with my font instead of a modified version of their regular "TB"... I changed their colors slightly, too, but nobody seemed to squawk at it. For the most part, though, I do like what they're doing in the logo department, it's just the overcrowding on the road jersey and the "(Devil) Rays" I had a problem with. Every Fifth Day is a
waggie Posted June 1, 2005 Posted June 1, 2005 I've been campaining to use "Tampa Rays" for years now. It sounds so much nicer. FINALLY someone understands!! @josh_j12 CFA- Fargo Bobcats
Mac the Knife Posted June 1, 2005 Posted June 1, 2005 The only way a team should be the "Rays" is if they're going to plaster a picture of Ray Romano on their jersey, or alternately if they're talking about sun rays, in which case the color scheme would have to be overhauled.I'm all for ditching "Tampa Bay" in favor of "Tampa" though. While I understand its a regional name, I've always thought it rather contrived. So unless a team is playing on a floating dock in the bay itself or something, "Tampa" or "St. Petersburg" (sp?) will suffice.
