HatCityEnforcer
Love what Landon Donavan had to say after the game...."They (the Mexicans) love to talk a lot, so it's a lot of fun shutting them up."Mexico played like plop..they were playing for a tie and got caught.Next stop..Germany FANTASY TEAMSHousatonic U. FirearmofMutiny
Can't wait for the World Cup draw. I always love seeing who will play who. P.S. Are World Cup seedings (they seed the top 8 teams away from each other) based on FIFA rankings? If so, there's no doubt the US will get a top 8 ranking. Are World Cup seedings (they seed the top 8 teams away from each other) based on FIFA rankings? If so, there's no doubt the US will get a top 8 ranking. I read an article about that on si.com, and they haven't decided if they will be using the FIFA rankings for the seeding system. It also mentioned something to the effect that the rankings were a bit flawed in the accuracy...whatever that means.
FirearmofMutiny
Read: We're embarassed that right now the FIFA rankings have in the top 5 2 teams that failed to make the last World Cup. (P.S. Go Netherlands! They're my favorite team from the UEFA region.)
cyandlux
I like the random draw. You always get good groups. I always love the group of death, I think I just like the name. But in 94 NYC got it and it was cool seeing Italy and Ireland play there. Seeding them somehow? naaaaaah. Soccers about tradition, leave that stuff to the NCAA.I remember the last time the US played in a World Cup in Europe. Lets hope it goes a little better this time well, Sampsons not the coach.... FirearmofMutiny
I think they've been seeding the top 8 since 98, maybe even further back. The rest of it is done by random draw, so the possibility of a Group of Death remains. ('02's England/Sweden/Argentina/Nigeria Group of Death was great!) -kj
I'm back from Columbus... WOW! What a game! If you were watching it, and saw a guy with a tightly buzzzed head, bushy goatee, and wearing a Minnesota First Volunteers shirt, that was me. I'm told I made it into a few crowd shots, I haven't watched my recording of the game yet.The Mexican team's a bunch of diving pusses. Play the game, ya wimps. The US team kicked yer butts, quit whining about it."We're on the top of the table, looking down..." Buy some t-shirts and stuff at KJ Shop! Are World Cup seedings (they seed the top 8 teams away from each other) based on FIFA rankings? If so, there's no doubt the US will get a top 8 ranking. I don't think so. FIFA would use a mix of the ranking and the last positions of the two last World Cups. Argentina, per example, is going second in the ranking, was eliminated in first round in 2002 and finished 5th in 1998. So Argentina would be a seeding.Usually the former world champions are seedings except Uruguay who has bad ranking and poorest finishes in last world cups.
