Jersey Sizes Getting Bigger

Thankfully baseball and basketball still make size 44 jerseys b/c that's what fits me. Unfortunately it seems football and hockey think the smallest person comes in size 48. I own a few authentics in each sport and the hockey and football ones are kinda big on me, but I get them anyway b/c I can't find smaller sizes. I happen to have one Miami Dolphins authentic that is a rare 46...but it used to belong to a player and we had the name and numbers stripped and had my own name put on it. Therefore it was specially made. I don't understand why companies think everyone is a size 48 or bigger...maybe they think if you weigh under 175 lbs you shouldn't be a sports fan?

..so you took a gameworn jersey and removed the name and numbers?.....smart move..and authentics are made to be more with pads(Hockey and football anyway) no pads in baseball or hoops means smaller sizes, although hoops usualy have the + whatever inches added to the lenth

It was gameworn only technically. The player was a pre-season invitee who dressed for one game and was cut thereafter. He never even stepped on the field. Why would I want a nobody's name on my jersey? In fact, from what I understand, every few years, sometimes the Dolphins pro shop will sell off jerseys of other guys who never made the squad and give customers the option of having the equipment people stripping the name and numbers in favor of putting your own name on it.

When you get a game worn jersey, keep in mind that the player wears protective gear under the jersey. How about trying to get a game worn hockey or lacrosse goalie's jersey and wear it? That would be fun :)

Yea but this jersey belonged to a punter so it was pretty small and form fitting so I like it better!

You can thank the rappers. They love their jerseys, and they love em big and baggy. I guess the athletic companies have pandered to them enough that now everyone else has to go along with them. The size M's are gone, and the 4XL's have taken their place.

Finally, somebody else sees this! Of course, I didn't have this problem two years ago when my weight was up to about 215 pounds (on a 5'-8" frame). After I slimmed down to about the 140-145 range, I had to get rid of all my old hockey and baseball jerseys because they were about two to three sizes too big. However, should I ever decide to replenish my collection, it might be tough to find stuff that I don't feel like I'm swimming in when I put it on. Even on eBay (where this stuff should be easier to find), I couldn't find baseball jerseys in the 40-44 range for either the Brewers or Nationals. It's time for these manufacturers to start catering to the people that don't have overhanging beer bellies and aren't taller than 6'-0".

OK, my rant is over, I feel much better now...

I got a Buccaneers authentic size 52 because the site said that was around an XL, but its freaking huge!!!! Most XLs are usually about a 48 for me. Ive noticed sizes getting rediculously big in the last few years

You're expecting a Brewers jersey to fit someone without a beer belly?

 talk about irony..... I have also noticed that even the standard S,M,L etc. etc for any type of clothing has also grown. Medium used to fit perfectly for me up to my late teens. And now, in some cases, 'M' has outgrown me.

But I am serious. Not all Wisconsinites metabolize beer, cheese, and bratwurst like I do :P

Oh well, maybe that's a sign that I should be investing in a Nats jersey instead...

I think clothing sizes in general are a travesty... i used to wear a Small just fine, then, 5th grade, clothing manufacturers bumped all of their sizes down! For no good reason! It happened every year through high school.. clothes that used to fit me, no longer did. I am flabbergasted and pissed.

The one that gets me is that i was an XL and a 36 pant for years, then, all of a sudden, right about the time I quit playing soccer, and my wife had a baby, nothing fit me anymore! Those dammed clothing manufacturers ratcheted down everything again! PLUS they snuck in my closet and made everything I already HAD too small! Bastards!

I used to be pissed at shoe companies for the same thing, but since 1992, their sizes have been pretty consistent.

Seriously, look at supply and demand. There are FAR more XL folks walking around the world than their are S and Ms. If jerseys are too big, wait for 8th grade to be over, you will get some hair is awkward places, and you will grow into the size of a real man.

That pi$$es me off the most because I have a really, really hard time finding a decent pair of pants that are my size. I usually look for a 30" waist. I go to store: I see 36", 40" 42" waist. I would take a good half-hour looking all over the section just to find something that fits me. :cursing:

I'm 5'11, 180. But authentics fit me kinda nicely for some reason, so IMO I see no problem. Now, if I was a few inches shorter and a few pounds lighter, then yeah, I'd look like I'm wearing a dress.

Imagine, if you will, a guy 5'8" and about 130 lbs. soaking wet....that's me.

Now, imagine my clothes and apparel shopping adventures....

Yeah. That's bull:censored:. Not even replica football and basketball jerseys fit me! :cursing:

You can thank the rappers.

Please.

It's because the fans are getting fatter and fatter and fatter and fatter and fatter and fatter and fatter and fatter and fatter and fatter and fatter and fatter and fatter 'cause all they do is sit in front of tv eating crappy food and watching games..

Og forbid they get off their asses and actually take a walk or exercise.

Alright, I've heard enough from you toothpicks complaining about not being able to find clothes. Go to the damn kids section. Try to find size 15 shoes. 44 inch waist with 36 inch inseams. 20 inch necks with 37 inch sleves on dress shirts. 58 extra long suit or sport coat. And no, I'm not fat. I'm 6'7 and 320 lbs., but it is not fat. You have no idea what it means to have a hard time finding clothes that fit.

I, for one, am thrilled to see jerseys available in larger sizes. I do have a game-worn goalie hockey jersey, and wear it regurarly. Two in fact. Both are size 56-G, and fit me perfectly.
