MLB Deadline Rumors

Here's a crazy rumor, somewhat reported on the Cardinals site.

Yes it says its a rumor, but Billy Wagner to St. Louis?

Welcoming Wags?

Another left-hander(they were talking about Mike Stanton before), however, could conceivably be making his way to St. Louis. Former Astro Billy Wagner, now closing games for Philadelphia, is a free agent after this season and has been mentioned in possible trade scenarios.

Cardinals closer Jason Isringhausen said that he and Wagner, who are both All-Stars, discussed the possibility of pitching in the same bullpen. Wagner said he would relish the chance.

"That would be pretty amazing," said Wagner. "Just being around him would probably make me better because of how calm and relaxed he seems when he's out there. It's always fun to talk to those guys, because I always feel like a wreck. Maybe he could help me to be better. It would be pretty interesting."

Interesting if they were both talking about it. Hmmm...who would close?

Wagner, up to a point this year, was thinking about retirement. But when you're talking about a perennial World Series contender now like the Cards... Even if the Phils don't trade him, I could definitely see him signing there for one more season or two.

As for who closes... I'm not sure it's fair to Isringhausen to replace him right now when he's been nothing but good, but maybe they'd compete for the job in 06 Spring Training. Imagine if they got Kline back - that would be a scary bullpen.

Marlins message board:

This is from another message board for the blue jays. According to them they have a source, they would not name. For how the deal would go down. Here it what it looks like so far

Chacin

Batista

**Catalonnotto

Minor League Pitcher

**If the Jays are willing to include Gross in the deal instead of Catalonotto, Florida will add Lowell in the deal.

for

Burnett

Encarnacion

**Lowell

According to him this would be a spring board for other trades as well. Including the Blue Jays trading off Hinske to the Padres for a top prospect. Then Hudson and a minor leaguer for Kip Wells. They would have a pretty dangerous rotation and stocked line up.

We would get our bullpen help, our great young starter and then dump salary and also have a couple of young prospects to shop for something else. Thoughts?

If that deal happens the AL East becomes a four-team race instead of the three-team race it currently is. I don't know how the Marlins gain from making this deal, but I guess Marlinfan has a point.

i can't see the blue jays getting another 3rd baseman, so hopefully that is just a rumor

What, Hillenbrand can't DH? :P Besides, I think Lowell is injured right now, so Hilly'd job is safe for the time being.

A trade for Burnett and Lowell might occur today.

The trade looks like a steal for the Orioles assuming the rumored players are in the deal. Some rumor that Hayden Penn would be spun-off in another trade (Zito maybe?).

(Zito maybe?).

That would be sweet if we could get Zito too, but I doubt it. I heard he wants to stay on the West Coast so he probably would not stay with us long.

No, after the Byrnes deal Zito isnt going anywhere, this year anyway. Thatd be my guess

Another thing with that Blue Jays-Marlins deal, the guy said that the ripple effect would lead to Orlando Hudson going to the Pirates for Kip Wells. We wouldn't have anyroom for him Castillo is are second baseman and of course he couldnt get moved to ss because of Wilson.

What about M. Redman or K. Wells for J. Encarnacion

Now that we have the one for the thumb, the other hand looks lonely........GO STEELERS

Latest trade rumor goes like this:

Marlins get:

M. Redman

J. Julio

L. Bigbie

Hayden Penn

O's get:

AJ Burnett

Daryl Ward

Bucs get:

Mike Lowell

prospect (?)

cash

I don't like this trade. The team will be making a mistake trading Mike Lowell, he has really come on the last couple weeks.

Hmmm...Reggie Sanders is out for a month with a Broken Leg.

Could this make the cardinals move harder to aquire a outfielder?

Stay tuned...

I am starting to think the Cardinals are going to stand pat because there isn't much out there

How did Jocketty come up with "J-Rod" from the Indians. Check out this guy's stats at Memphis!

The Cards haven't really been firing on all cylinders yet offensively. They are still winning with Sanders and Molina out. Before that it was Walker and Rolen. Rolen still isn't hitting.

I kept thinking when are they going to get an outfielder. Maybe they got him!

He definatly looked ok last night. I believe cleveland released him, and memphis signed him cause the Cardinals actually bought the contract from Memphis. So it wasn't really a jocketty signing, but I could be way off.

I mean, he's young compared to our other outfielders, so that's good. But he swings alot, which may lead to alot of strike outs. With Reggie Sanders and Jim Edmonds already on the team, a 3rd guy that has alot of K's isn't the best thing. This is why I was against trading for Adam Dunn. Great player, but he K's alot.

All in all, he seems like he'll sub in just fine. We've had a AAA catcher for the last 2 games and won both. Just seems like someone picks it up if they need it.

BTW...it seems like the offense isn't firing on all cylinders, however they are scoring only about a half run less than last year per game. its like 5.25 this year vs. 5.6 last year.

I can't say I've ever been upset over any move Jocketty has made near the trading deadline. He always seems to get a good player for prospects that we don't need. If they make a move, I have a feeling it will completly surprise people. But I agree, Idon't think they'll make a move. Of course I felt that way this year and then...Larry Walker comes along.

Definitely right. Ya never know with him. He always pulls a surprise. Rolen before that..and Big Mac and Will Clark and so it goes

I like that he said he won't give up any young pitcher for a one -year fix.

I agree about Dunn
