I heard somewhere, that Mike Madano if he doesn't sign with the Stars he would like to sign w/the 'Yotes and play with Brett Hull.

That was actually the lead story on TSN.ca earlier today.

Add some more names to the FA List. The Canadiens released Patrice Brisebois, and the Red Wings waived Derian Hatcher, Ray Whitney, and Darren McCarty.

The Post-Dispatch is reporting no buyouts for the Blues. Which is good news considering how much bank I dropped on a Dougie Weight jersey before the 03-04 season.

Still up in the air, though, is the status of Chris Pronger. They have until Sunday to re-sign him or make a qualifying offer. Right now Larry Pleau is saying they still don't know what they're going to do.

Still no word from the Garden as of yet on any Rangers buyouts....

However, the word on the street is that both Bobby Holik and Darius Kasparaitis are gonna be cut soon. Holik, if they can get him back at a much reduced rate, is a guy I wouldn't mind seeing coming back. Kasperaitis on the other hand I could care less about.

Was reading on TSN.ca this morning that Scott Niedermayer intends to test the free agent waters, and his agent says they are looking for offers at or near the league maximum of $7.8 million a season. He also says a playing in western Canada (Vancouver is specifically mentioned in the story) would be nice, considering he's from Cranbrook and has been living here in Fernie all year. Story here

TSN is also reporting that the Sabres are trying to deal Miroslav Satan: Story here

I think the Devils should trade for Satan. Instant boost in revenue because of all the jersey sells.

That, or he goes to Atlanta to play with the Thrashers.....I can see the headlines now:

"The Devil went down to Georgia"

Bobby Clarke has stated that Niedermayer is near the top of the Flyers shopping list. Depends on how they can work the rest of their cap, I guess.

If Scotty landed in Philly, they will be really nasty. I think a team could turn around their record real fast this year. A lot of talent to do so. Bulin Wall, Nieds, Forsberg would be great additions to someone that hasn't been good in years. Rangers?

Holik is prime example of how the Rangers destroyed NHL economic system with that signing. He was over-rated and Rangers didn't see that.

While this may indeed be true, it is nearly impossible for anyone to fit under the cap with players like these who, for one reason or another, will be trying their damnedest to get the league maximum. And that's a good thing. Spacing out the talent should be the goal of this cap, not making sure everyone has a chance to just make money...(now who's greedy? :therock: )

You can add Pierre Turgeon to the list: TSN.ca

Meanwhile, after buying out John LeClair and Tony Amonte, the Flyers have locked up Jeff Carter and Mike Richards (Story); and Joe Thornton is apparently not thrilled with the contract the Bruins have offered him Story).

Beat me to Turgeon. He was kind of a dissapointment in Dallas though.

Carter and Richards, along with Patrick Sharpe should keep the Flyers young and good for the forseeable(sp?) future.

Plus, Gagne is coming back (and possibly with a longer term contract) and they have Nittymaki ready to go if Esche falters in goal. All they really need is a couple defensive upgrades and they could easily be one of the top 2 or 3 favorites in the East.

St. Louis has made a qualifying offer to Chris Pronger of $7.2 million. Prongs was actually one of 12 players the Blues made qualifying offers to Wednesday, including six minor leaguers. The list includes Eric Boguniecki, Ryan Johnson, Jamal Mayers, Mark Rycroft, Bryce Salvador and Peter Sejna. The Blues are going to pick up options on Patrick Lalime, Matt Walker and Andy Roach.

That puts the tentative roster at 19 - counting 10 under contract, six qualifying offers and the three options. The payroll is $34,501,040 - according to the Post-Dispatch. St. Louis has at least four more players to sign.

After the team said they will not be near the cap (trying to save room as the Laurie's try to sell the team) there are rumors that Pronger will be traded. One possibility is Atlanta. Fans on the "Blues Talk" forum at the Post-Dispatch's web site are buzzing about the possibility of a Pronger-for-Danny Heatly trade.

Hmmmm....

One positive move by the Rangers...actually, make it 2 or 3....they inked 3 of their more highly regarded prospects...goalie Henrik Lundqvist, goalie Al Montoya, and winger Hugh Jessiman. This tells me that it's looking like a few of the guys from Hartford are gonna get a serious chance this year (most noteably Jason Labarbera, who's been one of the top netminders in the A the last 2 seasons)

From what I gathered, it seems the Blueshirts are gonna go mostly with kids (outside of Jagr & Nylander)...means some beatings this season from the likes of Philly, Jersey, and Ottawa (who are my top 3 faves to win the East this year), but I can live with that if it means seeing the kids improve from game to game...besides, Hartford's actually had some good teams over the last few years while the big club has been gawd-awful.

Holik is prime example of how the Rangers destroyed NHL economic system with that signing. He was over-rated and Rangers didn't see that.

Thanks for showing off your complete ignorance on the subject, bro...

Yep, the Dolans sure had a hand in that insane contract the Fishsticks handed Alexei "I don't ever play any meaningful hockey after April 1st" Yashin (he might be talented, but he sure as hell wasn't worth nearly $9 mil. a year). Sure, the forces at Penn Plaza were the big reason as to why Tom Hicks had another brain fart in Dallas and gave out undeniably idiotic contracts to Guerin & Turgeon...Why not blame the Rangers for the fact that Jeremy Jacobs opened his pocketbook and overpaid for Marty Lapointe, while letting some more quality guys go that would have come back for less money than a guy who was a 3rd liner at best....

The Rangers did make some retarded player personnel moves, but to blame them for all the ills of the NHL is just showing that the person that makes a statement like that is either very misinformed or just plain stupid.

It's also ignoring the fact that Toronto and New Jersey made the same offer as the Rangers and Holik picked NYR over the other two.
