From TSN.ca:

LAS VEGAS (AP) - The 2007 NBA all-star game will be played in Las Vegas, making it the first city without an NBA franchise to host the event.

Commissioner David Stern made the announcement Friday, calling the game "a merger between the basketball capital of the world and the entertainment capital of the world."

The game will be played at the Thomas & Mack Center on the UNLV campus.

Casinos will not take bets on any all-star events under a ban proposed by the NBA and approved by state gambling regulators.

Can't wait to see that logo... might rival the Pittsburgh MLB all-star logo for colors, you never know with vegas. Especially since they don't have a team to incorporate into the logo.

I'm thinkng the logo may look similar to the Arena Bowl XIX logo from this past year.

Great move by the NBA. It should be the permanent host.

You used to hold me

Tell me that I was the best

Anything in this world I want

I could posses

All that made me want

Was all that I can get

In order to survive

Gotta learn to live with regrets

I think the logo will just be an add for the city. The whole game is going to be an add for Vegas and the event will once and for all prove that Vegas IS a major league city. And maybe, what? Expansion....move a team? It'll be great for the city to showcase itself as a worthy place to host a franchise. :D

Bah I think they should have a team first.

This is a prelude to that, Tank. The NBA's been eyeing LV for years now, and this is taking one giant leap toward putting a team (probably via relocation) into Sin City.

The questions is/are... which team, and when?

The Utah Jazz, if you remember, played half their home games in 1983 at the T&M and a few other times also, when they were trying to figure out the possibility of moving to Vegas. The NBA has had interest since then and Vegas NOW is a lot bigger then Vegas THEN. 1.5 million people and still growing. :D

I really want to see the Hornets moved to the west..to shut up all their fans talking about how good they are..but..that would screw up everything..so..

I guess the Jazz, or the Clippers.

How would it screw things up? The Hornets are already in the Western Conference (came over last season).

It would screw the divisional format up with the Hornets moving to Las Vegas. That would leave the Southwest Division with four teams and the Pacific Division with six teams. The best solution, if it did happen, would be to move Phoenix to the Southwest Division so Las Vegas can be in the Pacific Division.

So, the Western Conference would look like this....

Southwest Division:

-Memphis

-Dallas

-San Antonio

-Houston

-Phoenix

Northwest Division:

-Seattle

-Denver

-Minnesota

-Portland

-Utah

Pacific Division

-LA Lakers

-LA Clippers

-Sacramento

-Golden State

-Las Vegas

It should be pretty interesting seeing the Allstar game outside a city where there is a team. Las Vegas was a good choice though, in my opinion.
