Anybody remember when...

The last time i can truly remember that I was stunned by a logo change, and how awesome it was, was when the Cavaliers' (02-03) and Mavericks' (01-02) got new logos. Compared to the recent logo changes, i.e. the "new" pacers and pistons logos, the "new" Jazz logo, even the Grizzlies' logo and the Bobcats logos, they weren't that great IMO. My example of truly great logo packages would be the Golden Baseball League. IMO, every single team in that league has an awesome logo. The WNBA has some awesome logos too. I understand some teams cant change due to tradition, i like the new Cardinals logo definitely. But the Bengals stupid B logo and horrendous uniforms make me cringe. And why the hell are the Clippers still sticking to their current package? They've sucked their entire existance and insist on keeping that stupid Laker-esque logo.

imo the last great logo unvieling belongs to the arizona cardinals. i agree with AAo that most of the new logos introduced today are sub par, to say the least. i'm going to analyze all of the latest logo releases.

NHL

no new primry logos here (all though i can't wait to see buffalo's new logo next year when they return to blue and gold). the two new alt logos have been big dissopointments though (flyers and preditors "3-D")

MLB

biggest change belongs to the blue jays. they failed misrably.

CFL

the new argos logo just seems plain. i want jason back! however the ti-cats did a very nice job in their update.

NFL

seahawks new logo is a nice update, but nothing special. redskins spear is amazing, they should wear it more. the cardinals update was FANTASTIC. i really like the new =B= logo the browns released, just wish they would use it more (tv graphics, centre field). still we have to live with the boring new bengals mark.

NBA

mavs had a nice update. like it a lot. same goes for the rockets and cavs updates. the bobcats new logo is ok, but the alt is so mutch better. memphis' new mark is good, but not great. however the new logos for pacers, pistons, jazz, and nuggets all bomb.

I think in order to be an earth-shattering design, the design itself needs to be an overhaul. The AZ Cards logo is nice, but it is barely more than a tweak of what they had. The Clev. Cavaliers logo is new, but falls short IMO. The last design that I liked alot was the Tampa Bay Bucs. The best upgrade of an existing look IMO was the St. Louis Rams. I'd probably like the Houston Rockets logo better if it didn't seem more like a sleek modern corporate logo. It's just a bit too underwhelming. The Grizzlies are blah, and their vancouver logo was more interesting creativity-wise.

Maybe this is why some members of this community think it has become boring. It's not our fault. Pro logos design-wise need a booster shot.

Though I'm a BIG Kansas guy, I was pleasently surprised at the Missouri package a few years back... It was such a signifigant change from the logo they had before. I was only about eight at the time, and didn't really know much, but I remember that they were the first new logo I really recognized. Their whole pack that year really got me into logos and sorta brought me to where i am now.

best logo to come out in the past decade has been the TEXANS. It's a true logo, a simple iconic mark that says everything without using words, gradients, italic -beveled type or a cartoonish character with a snarl, muscles and weilding an implement not normally used as a weapon.

It's perfect.

Utah Jazz had the worst change in a long time. I challenge you to defend it.

Agreed.

The Texans is the last all-new logo that really showed a clean, progressive-yet-timeless design. Simple and iconic.

I would say that the best logo (yes there is going to be some bias here) in the past ten years is the Minnesota Wild becasue of the fact that it incorporates a lot of what Minnesota is. For instance using the north star polaris as the eye. Using the Mississippi river for the mouth and using the moon for the ear and using the conifirs of the northwoods. To me that is the sweetest logo in use right now

I rank the Wild as my third fave behind the Denver Broncos in second. I like the Wild logo

and think they did a great job putting a lot of imagery in it without making it hard to read.

Worst update or revison to an exisiting logo: The Philly Flyers 3rd jersey logo. Ugh,

what's with all the beveling and faux-chrome embroidery. And they inset the outside

outline so it's skinnier than it should be, that's just bad design and inexcusable.

I agree (and am also biased). I love the colors and the logo was very creative. Makes up for the terrible name.

I think the Texans runs a close second. To think of how bad recent logos are, then they nail with something so simple.

Disclaimer: If this comment is about an NBA uniform from 2017-2018 or later, do not constitute a lack of acknowledgement of the corporate logo to mean anything other than "the corporate logo is terrible and makes the uniform significantly worse."

The worst in the past few years has to be the falcons. the old logo was simple, brilliantly representing an "F". the new one looks like a falcon through a kaleidoscope. my most recent favorite is probably the titans

Don't hate me, but I thought the Padres "surf" logo was an improvement. I'm not saying it's one of the best logos of all time, but for the Padres, it's an improvement. I'm glad they ditched orange and brought back the swining friar.

Lots of good calls here, especially on the Texans, Wild and Nats (except for that "established 1905" part :suspect: ).

I've always suspected that the Houston Rockets' entire current package was just an homage to one player on the team, Yao. The whole look screams "People's Republic of China national team" to me.
