Pat
What the hell are you guys talking about?Nascar is probably the second biggest sport right now, behind the NFL. The NHL is way, way down there. Dont bring preference into this. The reason NASCAR isnt sometimes considered a big4 sport is because their is a debate over if it is a sport.NFLNASCARMLBNBA.....NHLAFL Proud owner of the Utah Pioneers of the Continnental Baseball League.PACKER BACKER FOREVER! DEAD!
And it looks like Toyota will join NASCAR very soon. Heaven help us. A bunch of GD rice-burners in the All-American sport of NASCAR. Who's next, VW, Audi, Citroen? Makes you wonder who won the war.And I hate road course racing. Wine and cheese Euro racing, that's what it is. Now THAT'S BORING! Give me Daytona or Bristol or Charlotte anytime. First of all, as a person of Asian descent I resent the term "GD rice-burners" Secondly, how is Toyota getting into NASCAR a bad thing for you? Wouldn't you love to see an all-American car like Ford bump one of those Toyota cars out of the race track? I saw, I came, I left.

JPBlueHen
Here's my ranking for sports:1. NFL (without question)2. Major League Baseball (people are watching games in record numbers, with no sign of slowing down)3. NCAA Football (Hundreds of schools get hundreds of thousands of people to games every week, which altogether is far greater than any NASCAR race. Plus, merchandise for the big schools sells buy the millions)4. NCAA Men's Basketball (March Madness is the most watched sports tournament in the country, and even non-sports people will watch the games with excitement as they watch their brackets.)5. NBA (the quick end to a possible lockout kept this league from going further down in the rankings)6. NASCAR (Nextel Cup Series of course)7. NHLAs far as NASCAR is concerned, I never understood why it became so popular as I quickly flip the channel whenever it comes on. However, this venue is on the rise but i don't believe it will ever make the top 4.For the NHL, I am happy to finally see it back and I think the upcoming season will be a sign of positive things to come for this sport. I don't think it will ever reach the top 4 but if the fans come back and ESPN gets their acts together and give them a television contract, this league will be on the rise and could surpass the NBA within the next decade. Redlands, CA
Reason why Nascar is so popular is because of the # of races are so much less than the # of games in MLB, NBA, and NHL. I don't know anyone can watch someone drive around a track fast but they probably question why we watch poker. If Nascar had 80 or 150 races plus playoffs it would hurt the sport greatly. It's easy sport to be educated in much like football. Only difference besides the rules and all that is football is popular with people since high school all the way up to NFL. Nascar isn't in college or high school. Nascar has a lot of hardcore fans that follow these drivers around and praise them like kings. That is why Nascar has survived for so long and now 5th major sport maybe even 6th behind college sports. We are all forgetting about Xtreme sports which has been taking off in popularity for a few years. I think the NHL is back and will establish as the 4th major sport in this country. It's back...............
JPBlueHen
The one reason why the NFL, MLB, and NBA are bigger right now than NASCAR, the X Games, or the NHL is because the first 3 sports mentioned have a large diversity of players. Those sports are seeing an increase in minority players and realize the importance of international popularity. MLB is having thier World Baseball classic next year, the NFL is playing preseason games in Japan and Mexico, and the NBA is starting to see a lot of more international dominance in their league, especially after the US was embarassed in the Athens games last summer. If one of the last of the 3 sports can make their league more diverse first, that league will have a great shot at making the top 4. My gut feeling is that whoever starts playing games in Japan or Mexico or some third world country first is probably gonna make a big effort in internationalizing their sport which I think will attract more fans to the game. I cant wait till it starts back up and ive never really been much into hockey. And on top of all that the huge amount of player movements has just made me want to watch hockey even more. I dont know how long this Gung Ho for hockey will last but i know at least at the start of the year im going to be all in to hockey On 11/19/2012 at 7:23 PM, oldschoolvikings said: She’s still half convinced “Chris Creamer” is a porn site.) Well, considering that NASCAR is just accepting women and blacks, it's going to be a while.NASCAR on the whole diversity front is trying it's hardest to go international. Recently, it had it's first race in Mexico (Busch Series though) and had 7 Mexican drivers compete..a couple (Michael Jourdain [sp?] for instance) stayed on for a while. NASCAR also recently took over CASCAR (Canadian NASCAR). While that's not very much international, it's getting there. The problem with minorities in NASCAR is that most people view NASCAR the same way most people on this site do, a redneck sport. Bill Lester is one of the few blacks that have ever raced in NASCAR, due to itr roots..but hey, it's a start.Anyway, NHL has the same problem NASCAR does..Hockey is the Union to NASCAR's confederate..North Vs. South. At least NASCAR fans don't yell that NASCAR should take tracks out of the North...*Looks at NHL fans who wanted the Tampa Bay Lightning to be destroyed* I don't speak for democrats, democrats don't speak for me. OB33
Guys the NHL and NASCAR have clearly made this water under the bridge, why can't we all? I find it kind of odd that more NASCAR fans aren't NHL fans and vice-versa. Both involve high speed, lots of collisions, and more than its fair share of fights. Why can't we be friends I've seen you 'round for a long long timeI remembered you when you drank my wine I've seen you walking down in ChinatownI called you but you could not look aroundI paid my money to the welfare lineI see you standing in it every timeThe color of your skin don't matter to meAs long as we can live in harmonyI'd kind of like to be the PresidentSo I can show you how your money's spentSometimes I don't speak rightBut yet I know what I'm talking aboutI know you're working for the CIAThey wouldn't have you in the Mafi-A. #CHOMPCHOMPCHOMP

Redlands, CA
Yes, Nascar has just started accepting African-Americans and Women. I don't think they will fully embrass them either. Well, as International play goes Hockey and NHL have gone international long before the NBA and NFL. As of 2002 28% of the NHL were European. Hockey has long had international tournaments such as the Olympics, Canada Cup, and World Cup of Hockey.
