Bleujayone
In light of the fact New Orleans is flooded out and getting worse with each new levy breaking, the Saints are obviously playing elsewhere for at least part if not the entire season, the same I would imagine for the NBA's Hornets, the AFL's VooDoo, and Tulane University (are they even open for class much less sport?). I'm told it may be up to 9 months to pump out all the water coming into the city. And that's without another hurricane or tropical storm coming by. If they get even half of what Florida got last year, there may be parts of the city that will be all but lost to water.Because of this, I was wondering if these teams might consider wearing a patch on their uniforms as a way to bring attention to the city they represent. I was intending it for the Saints to put on their uniforms, but after mulling about it more, I also thought of making it so not only sport teams could to wear, but police, fire, EMTs, Search & Rescue, Coast Guard, and Civil Defence too.How might you go about doing this? I say this because I recall all the patches for 9/11 and I think in many ways this is something of the same magnitude. Maybe you might use the city's flag. Maybe it might be a combination of Louisiana and Mississippi elements since they got hit pretty hard too. Maybe a stylized "NOLA" for an abbriviation. Perhaps you might want a picture of the SuperDome, or Mardi Gras masks. For me, I was thinking about something along the line of a customized cresent moon in the colors of green, purple, and gold. No water on it, but instead something to galvinize the people of the area and bring attention to those from other parts of the country and the rest of the world. *by the way, a big "Thank You" to our cousins to the Great White North for already responding with support in the hurricane's aftermath. We all have our little faults. Mine's in California.
slapshot
I think if you only honor New Orleans you end up slighting the areas hit even harder, like the Gulf Coasts of Mississippi and Alabama. lost_limey
I think the simplest patch to do would be something like the hurricane warning flag with just 'Katrina' superimposed on the top flag.

slapshot
Why not have all league personnel of all leagues wear either a sticker or patch for the Red Cross, with the call to donate slogan? I don't know any league that would turn away the Red Cross, and it's the one major non-profit organization that other companies will have advertising on their own websites. slapshot
That patch looks more like a celebration than a memorial. And it would really gaudy to slap it on the side of the helmet like that. They should take a cue from 9/11?something solemn but dignified. Cujo
All teams wear American flags already. I don't see why spend money to get patches made. Just give the money to red cross or something. I think that should be enough as long as they have a moment os slience before each home game or something. That would be nice.
Grish
how about just putting on of these on ALL team uniforms...yes i know it is a veterans patch could not find just a Red Cross patch. And then at the begining of each game the can run a scroll with a phone number to donate for releif efferts... sscrunner06
I totally agree with jpslapshot. If you were to make a patch in rememberance of this disaster you should try to incorporate the whole regional area that was affected. Granted, the people of New Orleans have suffered tremendously, but the Mississippi Gulf Coast was also devastated (as well as the Alabama coast). Also, since the New Orleans fan base extends well down the gulf coast, it would be only right to remember the people in these areas who have also been devastated by Katrina. ProvidenceRI
I'd have to suggest something like this, but with a blockier numeral font:It could be right next to the vertical stripe along the back of the helmets.
