Yankees-Angels

I just can't find myself rooting for the Yankees for a few reasons:

1. There is nothing aesthetically attractive or pleasing about their uniforms or identity at all.

2. They've won so many championships so frequently that, even if I were a Yankees fan, there just wouldn't be that much excitement to winning it. The Yankees are never the underdog. When your team is expected to win, it doesn't seem thrilling when you do win it. Nobody outside of NYC and ESPN is impressed that it happens either. I also find that much of joy that Yankees fans have in winning the championship is the mere fact that their rivals didn't win it that year.

3. The fact that they've won so much and pretty much everything you can think of, it's obvious that they'll win pretty much any argument regarding baseball history. For this reason, it gives any casual baseball fan an easy copout to declare a favorite team as the one who has no historic faults against it (and whenever they do poorly, they use all these accolades as backup. Sure, any team is going to use that in any argument regarding their team, but the fact that you don't have to think very far to pull up something great goes to show that you don't need to know much about baseball to be a Yankees fan).

4. The fact that you are also the most hated fanbase in the league won't make you very many friends.

I grew up in the 80's and early 90's when, let's face it, the Yankees weren't any good (and everyone let you know it)

Everytime the Yankees won, i had complete and unconstrained joy.

I hate, HATE the fact that all other fans think that every Yankee fan is a bandwagoner. Are there bandwagon fans? yep. there is for every winner, but there are true-blue fans that stick withthe team through thick and thin. Wether the Yankees suck or not, i will support them, i will always hate the Red Sox, and that is just how it is. Yes, Yankees fans are spoiled by success. Why is that bad? because your owners and teams don't care, it's OUR fault? That's not cool.

Don't be drinking the haterade.

They still had 22 World Series titles to rub in everyone's faces, still more than everyone else. I would never have resisted bringing that up.

Everytime the Yankees won, i had complete and unconstrained joy.

You must have had a LOT of joy.

I hate, HATE the fact that all other fans think that every Yankee fan is a bandwagoner. That's cool I suppose. And it's thus why I'll never bother to argue with you about baseball.

It just seems to me that the second a person reveals that they are a Yankees fan, others realize that there is never any point in making an argument with them, they've decided to take the lazy way out and adopt the answer to everything. I know this obviously doesn't apply to the genuine fans like you because you probably ache at the thought of the 2004 ALCS and any other mild blemish on their dominant history.

Yes, Yankees fans are spoiled by success. Why is that bad? because your owners and teams don't care, it's OUR fault? That's not cool.

That did apply until about 10 years ago or so. Now the Yankees and their big free agent signings drive the market price for players so high that the owners of other teams have to risk their own money to attempt to compete in a league where only 8 of 30 teams have a chance every year to try and win it all. If any more than 8 of these owners have to spill ther own bank to afford a superstar to compete, someone's not playing fair.

The Yankees sign a big player to a bigger contract. The bandwagoners follow that superstar, the Yankee machine makes more money. They use it to buy more superstars, attracting more bandwagoners. The other teams lose their big names, lose their bandwagoners, make no profit, struggle to compete. The competitive edge tilts heavily to the Bronx Bombers. The MLB has taxes in place to discourage this and the Yankees are like ":censored: it! See if we care! We own you and always will and you know it." Teams realize this and don't even try because they can't....

...BUT, amazingly, for the past five years, they've had the highest payroll and just aren't able to win it all. There is no excuse, no excuse at all why they can't get it done. (But it is a very pleasant surprise that it happens.) The mere fact that this happens seems to be the primary reason why the rest of the league actually exists. It is entirely divided into the Yankees and Non-Yankees.

The New York Yankees are like the real life version of an impregnible fortress. You can't knock it down. No matter how hard you try. Nothing will ever even crack it. So there is no point. (Sure you could beat them in the World Series, but they still have umpteen more to trump you with.) It's great to live in whenever you want to avoid confrontation, because you know it's the answer to everything. (In fact, this is also a reason why I'm not a Canadiens fan either.)

Don't be drinking the haterade.

Good luck spreading the Loverade.

It wasn't cool to ba a yankee fan until at least 1995... Good to know that some of us remember the lean years with the Steve Kemp's, Tim Leary's, Ken Phelps' and Steve Trout's of the world *cough Ed Whitson cough*. Those were bad times to be a Yankees fan.

Hey! Where's yankeeman in all of this?

Probably hanging out by the Stadium seeing if A(WOL)-Rod, Jeter, or the Giambozo needs a caddy today

Either that or he's too busy having joygasms over wrestling.

And, here's the beef I have with the Yankees. I actually liked them back in the mid 1990s, when they were actually a TEAM... back in the David Cone, Scott Brosious, Paul O'Neill era. Then they were respectable. But now, they're nothing but a bunch of hired mercenaries. the past few years, if they don't win it all, all the sudden they'd overly pay for some other guy. Examples: Giambi, ARod, Big Unit, Flash Gordon, Sheffield, Mussina, Chaconm Matsui, etc. Just seems like they'd have a better chance if they were given time to become a team.

Sorry for this one, yankeeman and J. Quincy King but I must laugh right here... HAHAHAHAHA! :D

Well... I'm happy because the Yankees had blown it in big 21st Century fashion... they are still seeking their first WS title in this current century...

The Marlins and the Red Sox already had won WS titles in the 20th and 21st centuries. ;)

Oh how much I agree. Back then, I actually respected and was jealous of the Yankees because they had great players. To this day, I respect on the Yankees only Torre and Jeter.

Incorrect, DC.

Try being a Phillies fan. Most losses by a professional sports franchise... EVER. One title in 123 seasons. Most years, we're eliminated by Memorial Day. We have owners who treat the 4th-largest market in the US like it's Topeka, and have alienated the most passionate fan base in the country along the way (it is a HUGE accomplishment to make Philadelphians apathetic about your team). This year they managed to hold our interest through all 162 games, even though they spit the bit in 5 crucial games in September, and gave up a dozen more through sheer incompetence.

The Cubs have the finest park in MLB, fans that show up win or lose, this "lovable loser" aura that people find endearing. The Phillies just lose, decade after decade (1970s being the exception). No curses, no charm, no following.

As for the Yankees - officially neutral. Half my family (and my wife's as well) are rabid Yankees fans, and they were even through the lean years. Baseball needs the Yankees, if for no other reason than to polarize people against something. I respect that the owner dumps hundreds of millions of dollars in pursuit of a title, which cannot be said for most teams, even in this luxury tax era. I wish more owners tried this hard; win or lose, they make the effort.

In order for the Mets' run of 12 losses in 17 games to mean something, the Phillies still had to win 13 of 17.

No. There was no year 0 A.D. The first century started in 1 A.D., and lasted for 100 years up to 101 A.D. Therefore, 2000 was the last year of the 20th century (1901-2000).

Anyway, on an anti-Yankee note...

No more Yankees in the playoffs: Priceless.

Not trying to be a prick, but how is a clichéd joke that's many years old and has been used on this very forum numerous times recently a "good hit"? Give me a break. Hate if you must (and it seems most of you here must), but these lackluster attempts to simply infuriate people without even the slightest attempt at creativity or originality are, for lack of a better word, stupid.

At least Wade's gone now! Maybe Leiby and that weak left side(Burrel & Bell) will pack their bags finally...as long as it's not for St. Louis or Anaheim. I'm not big on Philly teams, at all, but the Phillies are my favorite, so I'd like to see them succeed sometime. It is true, beng a Philly fan is painful. Eagles blowing it every year, to my delight. The Flyers are always a disappointment, again to my delight. I could care less about the Sixers. As my friend's dad put it to a Boston cab driver: "You guys act like you deserve it every year...whaddya want? We already gave you Schilling..."

I'm so sick of Boston/NY....they can have their rivalry on the golf course now as both my teams fight it out for the series.
