That would be all good if the game wasnt tied 1-1 at the time. Im not an expert but i dont think that wouldve meant an Angels win. Anyway on regards to the call, i thought it was probably a bad call but i really have to take a closer look at it to be sure. I'm bitter now. I need some Count Chocula to heal my wounds. At least the Cards won. It's so nice having both favorite teams still in the race. ROCHitman Posted October 13, 2005 Share Posted October 13, 2005 I'm as unbiased as they come (I dislike both teams) and I'm an umpire myself.Very rarely will you hear me say what I'm about to say.The Home plate umpire made a mistake, a big one mistake.Doug Eddings made a K call (fist in the air) and allowed the play to continue. Nohing wrong with that. In fact, he followed protocol.What I can't understand is why he reversed his original call during the play and did not seek help from another umpire. I think Pierzynski convince him that the ball hit the dirt and he was too stubborn to reverse his call twice. Umpires wjo have been in the game a long time frequently get that way. The develop bad habits in their mechanincs and rarely change their calls because it make them and their crew look bad. Fellas! You gotta make the call right no matter how silly you look.That's the bottom line.The fact that Chicago went on to score the winning run as a result of the original play makes this look very bad for his crew.
