OMMF
We all know who each of our teams big #1 and #2 rivals are. All the college rivalry games, the intrastate games in the big 4 sports and all the historical matchups. What are the rivalries that, while not as high profile, do you think are just as meaningful?Watching the border war tonight between Buffalo and Toronto reminded me of what kind of series those 2 NHL teams can have. You always hear about the Leafs-Habs/Sens/Wings but the Sabres games may be the best ones you don't see very often.Any more that you can think of? Cujo
Since I live in Avalanche country (kinda) and have friends who are Avs fans, I can tell you Colorado fans hate the Minnesota Wild, not quite to the extent as their other rivals, the Red Wings or maybe even the Stars, but there is hatred towards Minnesota. It all goes back to 2003 playoffs. The Wild didn't only upset the Stanley Cup favorite Avs in seven games, they did it coming back from beong down 3 games to 1, and on top of that, retired Patrick Roy, as he retired that following off season.I'm not sure if the feelings are mutual with Minnesota fans, but I can tell you Avs fans still remember 2003 every time these teams square off. SouthSidePride
White Sox-TwinsYou would not believe how much hatred there is on the Southside for those pesky Twins, this year we stuck it to them, but the years before that were marred by the Twins beating us on some bull play, like Torii Hunter damn near killing Jaime Burke at the plate for no reason. I nearly jumped out of the stands to kill him. On top of that, the Twins would always beat us to clinch the division. But no question, the worst, most unadulterated, heinus act came when Jaque Jones broke up Freddy Garcia's no hitter in the 8th with a solo shot, and then Freddy lost the game with one hit. I nearly tore out my hair. The Twins and the Cubs are hated as equals on the southside. GO GO WHITE SOX. HereCometheHawks.net

See Red
White Sox-Twins I think I'm the only one in here that understanding the question posed by OMMF at the beginning of the thread. Apparently, if everyone else interprets it one way, then you're the only one that doesn't understand the question. He's talking about rivalries that, while we know of them, even being outside of the teams fanbases, don't get the publicity they should. TFoA
Falcons/Panthers That maybe the least obvious because everybody in the NFL wants to ignore the fact that the team that has frustrated the Panthers the most since their rise to the elite has been these Atlanta Falcons with Vick. We've basically owned the Panthers, they have beat us only ONCE since Vick came.
sscrunner06
In NCAA football, Florida vs LSU has really developed into a heated rivalry...really, most SEC games have some kind of storyline to them.

mjrbaseball
Consider in college basketball:Penn vs. Princeton. Not only do these two schools not like each other, but they are always battling each other for the Ivy League championship, with only the winner making it to the NCAA Tournament, and the loser not going anywhere. And several times recently, they have split their regular-season meetings, resulting in a one-game neutral-site playoff to decide the Ivy League representative in the NCAA Tourney.A rivalry not only because of the animosity between the teams, but also one that means something.
