Discrim Posted November 12, 2005 Share Posted November 12, 2005 Wisconsin-Michigan...basically, the "Take a Number" rivalry: about 3rd in importance to the Badgers, and probably 6th or 7th in importance to MichiganWisconsin-Iowa...we've been ending the Big Ten sked with this matchup instead of UW-Minny in recent yearsAir Force vs Army and Navy...the two ignored pieces of the Commander-in-Chief rivalry. Army-Navy gets all the attention, though until recent years AFA had the solace of having better teams, which the Mids can now lay claim to.Bucks-Bulls...basically, this rivalry has gone through stages of dominance in recent years: the years of Jordan's dominance coincided with the Bucks' Great Depression, so in those years the Bulls typically counted this as an automatic win. The Bucks' resurrection happened at teh same time as the Bulls' collapse, so the tide turned in favor of Milwaukee. With the Bulls' youngsters maturing and the Bucks falling off a bit, things are about equal now.hey bucfan, how is Avs-Wings underrated? shoot, I'm an Avs fan and I'll tell ya it's a bit overrated, frankly. I feel like most hockey rivalries are underrated in comparison to other sports. It used to be real good, but now, I'd agree with ya, Discrim. Not to say that we don't get excited when the Avs play the Wings, but the excitement isn't nearly the same as it used to be. That is, it's a rivalry because of the Lakers formerly being in Minneapolis, and the Timberwolves carry some of the old Minneapolis Lakers legacies. One of the odder rivalries though, because despite being incredibly heated in the stadium, a lot of us have high school friends at the other university. So really we just focus our hate on the other team, and then go home and party with the other team's fans.Washington - OregonWhile husky fans are often friends or co-workers with cougs, the ducks and huskies can flat out hate each other without any relationships getting in the way. Plus there's some good history here. Ask any fan of either team.Just my biased perspective from the northwest. Sonics/Blazers would be good with the whole Nate McMillan switching sides thing; unfortunately both teams suck. When any of the teams (Drexel, La Salle, Pennsylvania, St. Joseph, Temple, and Villanova) play each other, it's in front of a packed house. Not so much given the lack of proximity between Raleigh and Boston compared to Boston and Hartford. I usually don't see too much of the other teams fans at the games. I will be representing the Hub and Spokes in Raleigh on March 1st, though. We shall see what the hatred is like.I get the feeling I will get much worse in Philly and Buffalo wearing the Black and Gold than I will in the Northern Carolina.
