Maybe all the various blues and silvers of the Cowboys are all official colors, and meant to be that way.

you're right....sort of. back in the day a lot of teams had mismatching colours, because printing technology wasn't as advanced as it is today. when that technology allowed for the colours to match, most teams standardized their colours, except for the cowboys and saints. being lazy is no excuse. until the cowboys fix theri mismatchig silvers and blues (not to mention contrasting white and blue jersey design) their uniforms suck.

I'll agree about the Saints - there is no reason why they shouldn't match these days. However, the Cowboys made a decision to have mismatched uniforms back in 1981.

From 1964 through 1980 the Cowboys tried to match the helmet color and the pants as best they could with the fabrics of the day, and used a dark royal trim color. I believe the black borders on the stripes came in when they switched to 2 wider stripes in 1966 (the 1964/65 jerseys had 3 smaller stripes, kind of like the 49ers). The blue jerseys had white numbers and white stripes - a mirror image of the white jersey. The blue jerseys were rarely worn since they wore white at home.

The Cowboys lost Super Bowl V wearing the blue jersey. Then as the 70s came to an end they started losing big regular season games when "forced" by the other team to wear the blue jersey, culminating in playoff losses in 1979 and 1980. The team and fans considered them to be "bad luck" so they made the switch to the navy jersey and pure silver pants in 1981. Although the jersey had the same 2-stripe design as the white jersey, the stripes were silver-grey with white trim and the numbers where silver with white trim. That forced the helmet color to "split the difference" between the pure silver and the traditional "silver blue", and the dark royal on the helmet got a bit darker so it didn't match any of the jersey/pant combos.

Also, the Cowboy's helmets started looking a bit different when many players were wearing Maxpro helmets back in the 70s - these were clear shells striped and painted on the inside, and they always looked a bit darker and more silver than the Riddell helmets painted on the outside.

ok, even if they made the decision to miss match colours (why they would, i don't know) it still dosn't make it ok. it's still a mess that needs to be fixed.

Absolutely agreed! I would like to see the Cowboys go retro 70s by getting Reebok, Riddell and Schutt in a room and redeveloping the original silver blue for the helmets and pants - and bring back the "bad luck" dark royal jersey.
