Brewers Sunday Home Unis

I am aware that so many people on here hate this logo, but I've never once actually heard anybody explain what is so bad about this logo. Ever. Seriously.

Why is this such a hated logo?

Actually, it's been explained by quite a few people many times, but I guess that gets discounted as "hating," or something. Do a search, I'm sure you'll find many explanations.

I think their current identity is by far more aesthetically pleasing, actually has a tie-in with the Brewers name, is better designed, has better colours with better contrast, and is much less cheesy, cliché, and in the case of the uniforms, downright generic.

Now, I'm sure everyone wants to think that I want to take a wizz on anything not made in the last few years, but I'll disagree with that. There's a difference, in my mind, between classic and generic/cliché. It's not flashy, but there's something classy, in my mind, about the YankMes' look. Perhaps it's the stark colour contrast, I can't really put my finger on it, really, but while the Yanks' look is very basic, it doesn't seem boring to me in the same way this throwback does.

This jersey in particular makes me think of bad 70s and early 80s stylings, regrettable looks such as the Padres' brown and yellow, the White Sox Habs-wanna-be stripes, etc. The Padres and Brewers in particular were brothers-in-arms, along with the Expos, in bad 70s/80s trends--lower case team name (though, not on this particular jersey) and contrasting front panels (thankfully we were spared that on this throwback, too).

In summary, I just don't like it, especially the jersey. The logo is pure cheese, and the jersey is barcode, off-the-shelf softball team generic.

(And, Sterling, I get what you're saying, there were no names, it was a pullover, etc... but, c'mon, it's the same jersey.)

Hey, there's a lot of evidence that Gen X (or whatever I am) is as unwilling to grow up as they are talented.

You got your kickball leagues, your Dukes of Hazzard movies, grown up Underoos and Halloween has ceased to be for kids.

We are a generation whose grand parents build the darned country, whose parents were all hippied up, then sold out and worked way too hard for nothing and all got divorced.

Now we're left to send out mass emails about how awesome it was to grow up in the 80s to all our stupid friends.

So.....I hate all that stuff (except Halloween). But I'll be damned if I don't know exactly where they're all coming from. I don't care if it's ugly. I don't care if it's a softball quality Yankees knockoff.

Dude, they wore those when my parents were together. THey wore them when I could ride the bike all day and my parents didn't care where I was. They wore them when my dog was alive, They wore those when the Brewers were great. THey wore those when life was great.

Retro is certainly overdone at this point, but I must call for a stay of execution here. If we wanna look like clowns why should anyone care. We're happy.

Yes, the newer logo and uniforms are better looking and the Sunday uni looks outdated from the start. The thing is, most Brewers fans don't care. They love the Brewers of the 80s. It's a comfort thing. So you can cry all you want about this uniform being boring and outdated. We just don't care.

It could be argued that Milwaukee is stuck in the 80s (or further back) in general... ^_^

(C'mon, I've visited the place three times this past year... well, two, really--the other one was spent wholly in Waukesha. Yaaaawn. I suppose I should've given a shout-out that I was going to be there this past weekend, but I didn't, my bad.)

Sterling, while I'm still going to assert that this is an awful turn of events... that was beautiful, man. Beautiful.

Funny, I think the "current" late 90s scheme is "boring and outdated." This look is much more classy to my eye.

And keep in mind that I don't particularly like the glove logo, advocating even back then for the return of the Beer Barrel Man (I wrote Bud Selig a letter when I was 12 or 13 asking for just that).

I agree with Gothamite that the "current" scheme looks dated. I thought they should have never changed from the blue & gold to the "Notre Dame" look with metallic gold and green brought in. The grey road uni's with the Milwaukee script were pretty timeless, IMO.

Let me clarify... this past weekend, I was actually in Milwaukee for a bowling tournament (well, the lanes are technically in Wauwatosa, I guess, but I was staying downtown). Waukesha was the beginning of October, for the US Australian Football League's national championships. Good times.

Why not have every team go "retro" every Sunday home game? Since the Phillies, Rangers, Braves and A's have all gone retro for a weekend or whatever the last few years and the White Sox went Sunday retro one year it might be a concept that works.

OR THere's 7 months in the year. The first Sunday of every month the teams wear a retro uni from a different decade. The newer franchises can either use old minor league unis, negro league unis or just wear their current alternates. Then we only see the retros 7 times a year.

If it won't work with 7 different jerseys, then have them just march out the same retro uni 7 times. Maybe give them the choice of how they want to handle it. Just trying to come up with ideas. Any ideas on what each team's identified uni should be? Should we make the away team go retro as well in those games? Would that mean bringing back powder blue for some teams like Kansas City or Toronto? Obviosly squads like Milwaukee, St Louis and Philadelphia could just use another decade's uni and avoid it.

Frankly, I like the current look better, and I'll keep wearing my current Brewers hat.

But if people like the old look, then its worth bringing back. And I like them being worn on only Sundays with those days having a retro theme to them in the stadium.

I think honoring the past is great, even if you like the old look. But if this team starts to contend, like I hope they do, I want to associate the victories in the 2000's with the current logo, not the logo of 20 years before.

You know, I like the new (old) jerseys, but it just doesn't fit anymore. First, the logo and wordmark are very dated, second, the blue and yellows aren't the same colors, and the ball/glove logo is nowhere in their current scheme. This is a case of let's have a throwback to have a throwback and sell more merchandise. Their current scheme is nice and up to date looking too. Unfortunately, the Ball/glove logo is like the Chargers throwbacks...nice in their time, but public demand (why??) and money will bring them both back

This is what im wondering, will the hats be the regular New Era 59Fifty hats that are the ones that are the Game Issued hats, Such as this one from the MLB Shop.com appears to be

pMLB2-2380671reg.jpg

Or will the players be wearing these Generik piece of crap looking hats that Cooperstown Collection puts out, more like these?

I just ordered the new hat from MLB shop this morning and if i pull it out of the box and it is a Cooperstown Collection hat and not a New Era 59Fifty hat, im sending it right back. I love "Throwback" hats but i absolutely hate the Cooperstown Collection type hats. NOTHING beats a 59Fifty and ill be sooooooo stoked if this hat is in current style. And it better have the MLB Logo on the back like all of the other hats. I freaked out when the Nats came out with the old Curly W hats in the 59Fifty style and bought both home and road within a week of release.

There is no resemblence between the Miller and Milwaukee "M"s.

In fact, there are a great number of significant differences.
