has anyone else seen this site?http://www.celsiusdesign.net/sabres/index.html

It's got some great gold and blue concepts. I hope the sabres use some of them.

That website has been around for years, and some people believe that it might look like some of those concepts.

Furthermore, that designer posts here, or at least once did (I apologize...there's so many members now I lose track).

Might it have been gcekus, or someone with a name similar to that?

He did indeed post here, although I am not entirely sure of the exact username.

I don't think Anaheim can use the California Golden Seals stuff can they?

Wouldn't they have to buy the rights from the Dallas Stars?

I don't think the Stars own the rights. Although the Seals/ Barons ended up merging with the North Stars I don't believe they got the rights to the names.

Although I think it would be stupid for the Ducks to rename themselves the Seals becasue Seals are in Northern California. Just frop the Mighty.

I've only visited Northern California just once, but aren't there sea lions up north, and seals down south? Correct me if I'm wrong. "Sea Lions," for what its worth, makes a bad sports franchise nickname.

I hope the Sabres don't revert to the old ones--they were awful.  An updated version might be okay though.

The ghost of GIlbert Perreault is waiting to kick the :censored: out of you for that statement.

ghost?! Gilbert is stilll alive, he'll come over himself and kick you in the junk

just for referring to his demise.

on the topic, yes the Sabres and few other teams will be changing. Rest assured the original 6 and others will be staying true to their colors, logos and basic aesthetic. However some striping patterns had to be modified to work with the new jersey templates. I will say from what I've seen things look very good and at first glance you may not know anything is different except the fit. It is snugger, more like the jersey fit in the 70's and 80's before they got ultrabaggy.

On the topic of the re-striping and modified jersey designs for all of the NHL, will they be standard? What I mean is that will each team have they same type of stripes and trim and the same font, or will there still be individuality for each team?

While teams may share blank templates, as Nagano 1998 did, each team will remain as true to their classic aesthetic as possible, including name and number fonts. I did not think it was cookie cutter, just some of the sleeve and body hem stripes will be removed and a more unique colorblocking will be used. So in the case of the 'Canes, their hurricane flag stripe will be gone. They remind me of the Nagano 1998 jerseys in the fact that they did not have a lot of

"traditional" horizaontal sleeve and body hem striping, they are very clean and streamlined. I was very impressed and did not think teams looked radically different.

Hmm....Should be interesting. Thanks for the info about the Jesery changes. At first, this whole idea scared me, made it sound like all of the NHL jerseys would look dumb. Now im kinda looking forward to it.

Especially the return of Blue and Gold.

It's gonna be amazing....

You know, considering the Sabres are en route to winning the Stanley Cup this year, it might be a bad idea to mess with success next year. I'm not a big fan of teams winning championships and then updating their uniforms. Look how well it played out for Miami in 2002 and St. Louis in 2001.

St. Louis Rams (???) updated in 2000.

Which Miami team are you talking about? The Dolphins updated in '97. The Hurricanes updated in 2000 and 2004.

Smart is believing half of what you hear. Genius is knowing which half.

Yeah, the Rams updated the year after they won the Super Bowl (they won it in calender year 2000, lost it in calender year 2001). I'm not positive, but I'm sure the Canes made some stupid change the year after they won in (caldender year)2002, didn't they?

Actually the Rams lost SB XXXVI in calendar year 2002 (remember the Ravens/Giants game in 2001).

And the only change that may have occurred with the Canes in 2002 is they added the green jersey - but I could be wrong about that. No other changes otherwise.

Actually, I had succesfully forgotten about the Ravens/Giants game until you reminded me. Thank you. But yes, you're right.

But the Rams did change their uniforms the season after they won their championship -- that's really my basic point and the only instance I can think of a team changing its uniform the year after a championship, and then not being good anymore (that did make sense, right?).

Oh, wait. Syracuse did too, right? That was stupid.

That changed already had gone through when the Rams win the Super Bowl. In order to change logos and uniforms you have to get them done and submit them to the NFL like 1 or 2 years before you actually change. Thus when the Rams won the Super Bowl the change was all set and the Rams couldn't go back.

Personally I like the Rams new uniforms. It's a solid design and it seperates them from the Los Angeles Rams. I see the new one and say St. Louis, the old won you could say LA.

Don't forget the Houston Rockets of 1995.. They went from classic to 3-D horrid after winning their second title.

I cannot conceive of a way that the NHL could pull this off that doesn't result in them alienating 10 times the fans they attract. I might be in the market for a basketball team to root for next winter.

Attention NHL: you are now, and always will be, a niche sport in the U.S. Stop trying to convince yourselves that doing stupid crap to the game will make it more popular.

Accually im not so sure about that. I know theres a regulation, but i remember the announcers saying that after the Rams won the SB, they took some of the extra money and got new unis. Sounds kinda rediculous now, but at the time it sounded good to me.

I think if the rams just went back to the old blue and yellow-gold with the current unifroms, it would have been a great update...

...and honestly, as much as i loved the ramhorns on the jerseys, they were dated.

However, the navy and metallic gold just don't look right, and they never will...

I dont really think that fans would leave a team, or an entire league, over a logo/jersey change.

Remember, we're in the minority here. Not everybody is obsessed or focused on every little design change or cut in the jerseys. Most care mostly about the game itself.

Therefore, when the NHL changes the jersyers, some with think they're cool, others will think the're lame, but it'll be a two day conversation between fans. Then it'll die, and eveybody will be ready to drop the puck in Oct. '06

No, but they'll certainly say "what the hell is THIS" and keep the $80 or whatever in their pockets. Then when merchandise sales hit rock bottom they'll realize it's time to bring back Coke Classic. Hopefully the players will bitch incessantly about how they hate the new jerseys too, that will be a big help.

I myself will be monumentally pissed if RBK & the NHL touches the Habs jerseys.

I as well. One of the nice things about the way uniforms are now is that they are diverse, teams have their own, totally unique looks from one another. You stick them all in the exact same template, throw that uniqueness right out the window.

I'll be in the sports stores once these new mockeries come out to snap up all the old uniforms when they're put into the clearance rack though. Outdated or not, I'll buy em
