TBGKon
not sure how to comment on this, in some ways it bothers me, and yet I had a feeling that this would be his last season anyways.
the admiral
Shameful. I hate them, but the free-spending Red Wings wouldn't have done this to one of their myriad old-timers.
Brass
Damn. I would love to see him play in Springfield!
Cujo
Andreychuk should have went out on top and called it a career after '04.
zer0dotcom
I hate to hear about hard working guys getting the axe, but at 42, for Dave, it's only a matter of time. The classy thing would be to let him finish out the season before doing this, but when you gotta win, you gotta win. Heres some of Dave's stats this year:7th on Tampa 42GP 6G 12A 18Pts -13 Though it should be noted, Dave's most productive season was 51 points, so really, he's on the pace he is every season. The big thing is, he's 42 years old, I'm surprised he's stayed so consistant over the years. Obviously he has other skills to bring to the table outside of his statistics. Hopefully something will work out where he'll be able to finish things with his dignityI agree with DC, he should have gone out on top. Very few people can make things work at his age on the NHL level, especially on a younger team.
NJTank
Hes old and past his prime and if he cant cut it then he cat cut it and should be released. Maybe he can go to Buffalo to finish the season and his career taht would certainley be a nice way to end it.
IceCap
Wow. Looks like Tampa's given up on their season. From what I heard it was Andreychuk who provided the emotional anchor that keept the team focused during their Cup run.

Jigga
I don't care how old or slow or downright sorry Andreychuk is. YOU DO NOT CUT YOUR CAPTAIN. Shameful display by the (still) defending champs. I hope they never win another one and are contracted. Bastards.
BCBoy
Reports saying that Andreychuck is very close to retiring now. Good career, I think he has the record for most Powerplay goals. He's gonna go to the Hall of Fame.

It is interesting how they could just go ahead and waive someone like Dave Andreychuk the way they did. That'll now the be the way his great career has to end, if he decides to retire. VitaminD
I don't care how old or slow or downright sorry Andreychuk is. YOU DO NOT CUT YOUR CAPTAIN. Shameful display by the (still) defending champs. I hope they never win another one and are contracted. Bastards. Absolutely right. Bad form, bad karma. The only justification I have heard about this, is that this arrangement allows Andreychuk to continue to collect his salary this year as an AHLer, without even having to report. That's fine... but what's stopping the Lightning from doing the right thing here? Let him retire, tear up that contract, and get him some honorary title of "Team Ambassador". He gets to be around the guys in an undefined capacity, shaking hands and mingling with fans, serving as another trusted voice in the dressing room and a sounding board for the younger players who don't feel right mouthing off to the vets or coaches. He works as much or as a little as he feels like, and even the work isn't really much work in the true sense.Even if this is what he ends up doing, they could have allowed him to walk out with some dignity - the final word on his transaction history will read waived by TB. Very sad.
winters in buffalo
Andreychuk might have survived another season or two under the old rules, but in the new NHL, he's just slow and old.
