randyc
Linki didn't see this coming, but after 2 surgery's on his shoulder and there's still pain, playing more hockey isn't going to make it any better.
BCBoy
Very surprising. I heard yesterday that he may get traded to Phoenix for Nedved, or retire, and he ended up taking option two. I think a year or so he may come back though, he IS only 33 years old.......What now for the Penguins? More ticks in the loss column, that's what. Avenger
That's a shame... he was my favorite player when the Denver Grizzlies won a Turner Cup in '95, right before the Avalanche came to town. That was a hell of a team with Ziggy, Tommy Salo, Jamie McClemmon, etc. Probably one of the better minor league teams ever. CC97
I followed this guy his entire career... been a fan since I saw him with the long hair and wearing #68 with the Islanders, I am shocked to see him hang 'em up. I just ordered a Palffy jersey last week too Now we begin the hunt for a new favourite player --- Chris Creamer Founder/Editor, SportsLogos.Net "The Mothership" • News • Facebook • X/Twitter • Instagram
kingssss
Wow, this is surprising. I loved this guy when he was with the Kings and I was sad to see him move to Pittsburgh, but I still somewhat followed him on the Pens. I guess it's just so hard to play through that pain and so discouraging to try to fix it and nothing help. I'm surprised to see him retire, I'll miss him. Jigga
Damn. This sucks. First Mess doesn't come back, then Hull retires, now Ziggy too! What the hell man. Guess I need some new hockey heroes. At least Ovechkin is tearing stuff up.I really hope he comes back in a year or two. At 35, he should still be able to play, I'll bet. CC97
that said... it is sad to see Ziggy go.. i had a lot of hope for him, he was a hell of a player when he was at 100% he was also apparently a hell of a player when he was in so much pain he had to retire, what i'd assume is much lower than 100%... he was having a very solid season this year --- Chris Creamer Founder/Editor, SportsLogos.Net "The Mothership" • News • Facebook • X/Twitter • Instagram

Cujo
Sad to see Palffy go out this way. I havn't really followed him closely the last couple of years, but this kinda comes ouf ot left field to me. Kinda makes you wish the player lockout wouldn't have happened so we could have seen more of players such as Palffy while they still had it. rmackman
I don't think this is a repercussion of the "new NHL". Palffy just can't deal w/ the pain. It's too bad because he was a great player. Dave Andreychuck was forced out because of the "new NHL". What the downside is that the Penguins just keep losing players that they signed in free agency (Thibalut). Now they'll lose more.On an interesting note regarding the new NHL, the Panthers have a small "article" if you will called THIS OR THAT. They interview each player and say which do you like better Chicken or Steak, Summer or Winter, etc. Well ther was a part that said NEW NHL and OLD NHL. Olli Jokinen, Jay Bouwmeester, and I'd say most of the Panthers said OLD NHL. Part of me wonders if it's because guys they looked up to like Messier, Hull, and Andreychuck can't play in this NHL because they're slower. "Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up. It knows it must run faster than the fastest lion or it will be eaten. Every morning in Africa, a lion wakes up. It knows it must outrun the slowest gazelle or it will starve. It doesn't matter whether you're a lion or a gazelle. When the sun comes up, you'd better be running." - Unknown | Check out my articles on jerseys at Bacon Sports
FiddySicks
At first I thought whats the big deal with a dude like him retireing, but then i realized i was badly mixed up. I always seem to get Ziggy Palffy and Theo Flurey mixed up, ant they had WAY different careers. Always too bad when an injury causes a guy to retire before hes ready to.
