NFL jersey nameplates

I think the AFL always had nameplates from the time they started play in 1960. I don't think any NFL teams had them until after the merger was announced, but I'm not sure exactly who was first and when they started. Maybe an expansion team, either Atlanta or New Orleans was first?

No NFL teams had names on the back until the 1970 season, when the league made all teams add names to jerseys. I think one exception may be when some running backs had "tear-away" jerseys in the mid to late 1970's. I'm going back in my memory but I don't think all of the tear-aways had names.
