I found this on the White Sox site...

Halfway to St. Patrick's Day and Green Caps from Miller Lite; Friday, September 8, 7:35 vs. Cleveland

Halfway to St. Patrick's Day is a celebration of Chicago's rich Irish heritage. The White Sox will wear green pinstriped uniforms and green caps. The evening's entertainment includes Irish bands, dance troupes and bagpipers throughout the ballpark. White Sox team members will wear green pinstriped uniforms and green caps created specially for the event. Miller Lite will give White Sox baseball caps to the first 20,000 fans age 21 and over.

May I ask why the f*** they are doing this???

We're the Windy City Irish-where craic is always best. Where every day is Paddy's Day and everyone's a guest. If you're Irish on the North Side or Irish on the West Welcome to the South Side come join our Irish Fest!

Chorus:We're the South Side Irish as our fathers were before. We come from the Windy City and we're Irish to the core From Bridgeport to Beverly from Midway to South Shore We're the South Side Irish-Let's sing it out once more!

Our parents came from Mayo, from Cork and Donegal. We come from Sabina, St. Kilian's and St. Gall St. Leo, Visitation, Little Flower and the rest. The South Side parishes are mighty-they're the best!

Chorus

We live on the South Side-Mayor Daley lived here too. The Greatest Irish Leader that Chicago ever knew and he was always so proud of his South Side Irish roots! So here's to His Honor to his memory we'll be true.

Chorus

We sing the songs our fathers sang when they were growing up Rebel songs of Erin's Isle in the South Side Irish Pubs and when it comes to baseball-we have two favorite clubs The Go-Go White Sox... and whoever plays the Cubs!

When you win a world championship, you tend to do crazy things.

Florida, you sell everyone off.

Boston, lets their guys go and let's one guy keep the game winning ball?

New York, just gets insanely older.

Chicago, just does a one day promo?

There are a lot of Irish people in Chicago, particularly on the South Side. I'm almost positive that the cornerstone of Old Comiskey Park was set on St. Patrick's Day and was green. So this is a very logical (and popular) promotion. I think the jerseys look good. I hope this is an annual event.

I'd like to see some silver and black trim added this year, and maybe a shamrock sleeve patch. In fact, while I'm thinking of it, isn't about time the Sox put the diamond sock patch on their home unis? They've been patchless since the renaming of Comiskey, and the sleeves just look, I dunno, empty.

I think some responses missed the point of the original post--the fact that the ChiSox are wearing green not only on St. Patrick's Day, but also on "Halfway to St. Patrick's Day" on Sept. 8.

Since St. Patrick's Day is during Spring Training, I have no problem with a team trying to come up with a way to let the home crowd see the festive green jerseys, especially teams in cities with a strong Irish heritage. But couldn't they find an actual Irish holiday instead of making up Un-St. Patrick's Day (think Alice in Wonderland) sometime in September?

I really like the current look. The picture posted above is a replica. On the authentic jerseys, the letters/numbers are two-color. They are green with a white underlayer. I think it really sets the jersey off.

As for the diamond patch on the home jerseys, I disagree. I experimented with it, but it doesn't look right on a pinstriped jersey.

Living in Chitown and going to as many games as I do, I can tlel you that once they introduced all the green merch, it sold like hot cakes. All season I saw green hats, shirts, jerseys, etc. There's a lot of Irish in the city and they like showing it off.
