Delicate Genius
Looks a little odd... they've had two Oiler logos at centre ice since the dynasty years.Edit: here's what it used to look like. http://www.edmontonoilers.com/interactive/...llrink_1440.jpg
benpc21
Humm, interesting. I gotta say I like the way it is now. When I read the title I was expecting to hear the 3rd logo or something was there now. I understand that its been the two smaller ones, but I like that they made the switch. I always found it a little odd that they had a circular logo, yet did two smaller circles in the center circle.
Cujo
Much different than what us Oiler fans are used to, but it's a definite upgrade to the 21st century. Maybe the Oilers can slap "Hockeytown" across the ice as well as Edmonton is much more of a hockeytown than the The Motor City eerrr Motown eerrr Rock City eerrr Detroit will EVER be. BBTV
I still remember back in the day when they had two little logos outside the center circle. Now that looked odd.
griffelh
When you have the 2 smaller logos the fans sitting on the side where the logo is 'upside down' don't feel like they are sitting on the back side of the arena.
tmorss9
I thought the logos outside the circle looked really cool, especially with the Northlands logo on the circle. As much as I'd like to see that done again, It just wouldnt look right with a Rexall logo at Centre. Like Curt said, its a nice modernization, just something I'll have to get used to, and like it the more I see it.

Detroit not a hockeytown? How about over a million people showing up for the Stanley Cup victory parade? Or how about the Hurricanes' owner almost moved the Whalers to Detroit and not Carolina? Yeah, save your breath, cause he will ignore your points to the contrary and the local ninny will bash you for questioning him. We hockey fans know Detroit is a great hockey town. WSU151
The weird thing about the new logo is that it's not centered in the thin circle that outlines it.

How bout there were 2 million people at BOTH Stanley Cup Parades in Philly, and that was 30 years ago.
IceCap
Yes, Detroit is a great hockey town, as is Edmonton. Still, nothing can touch Toronto and Montreal.
BelfourThibault
Sure, Detroit is a great hockey town...now. Most of their fans can't tell you anyone (other than Yzerman or Probert) who was on the team prior to the mid-90's explosion. I also remember when they used to put free Dead, I mean Red Wings tickets under windshield wipers at Tiger Stadium.
Reaper
The weird thing about the new logo is that it's not centered in the thin circle that outlines it. I think that it probably looks distorted due to the wide angle lense used to photograph it.

StevieY19
Hey, there are lots of Red Wings fans who have been going for decades...like my dad, who had virtual season tickets when the team was bad. He went to any game he could, and tickets were always there. And I'm named after Gordie Howe, so the Red Wings tradition has been passed down. Once again, verrrry classy remarks, Payno. For someone who accuses people of always posting off topic and whoring it up on here, you sure do a lot of it yourself. If you wanna continue to attack and in the process start up another firestorm on the boards like last week, be my guest. Maybe I can rack up more posts as a result since you seem to think that's the reason I come here. Bro, just let it go.As for the topic at hand... Just because I currently reside in the southwest does not mean I don't know my hockey. I know it was born in Canada. I know the Hall of Fame resides in Toronto. I know Montreal has their name egraved on the cup more than any other team. Detroit and the state of Michigan is a great state for hockey (college and pro), no doubt, but they do not eat, sleep, and breath hockey like most Canadaian cities do. That is why I would rather see a city like Edmonton, Toronto, or Montreal be dubbed "Hockeytown".
Braden
I always thought that Detriot was called "Hockeytown USA"...I don't know too much about Detrot hockey fans, but it seems to me that the nickname is valid. Let's just not talk about this stuff anymore. You're just giving him more ammo.Back on topic, I like what they did with the logo on the rink, but it's really nothing special. It might be a bit too garish, no?
