Oilers change centre ice logo

Didn't they also used to have either the team logo or the logo for the arena on the outside of the center circle? My memory could be fuzzy, but I seem to remember there being something touching either side of the circle, nearly touching the blue line on each side.

Much different than what us Oiler fans are used to, but it's a definite upgrade to the 21st century.

Maybe the Oilers can slap "Hockeytown" across the ice as well as Edmonton is much more of a hockeytown than the The Motor City eerrr Motown eerrr Rock City eerrr Detroit will EVER be.

this statement followed by 5 seconds of dead air. jim rome style.

rack 'em.

Dirty, I can't back you up this time. You kinda hijacked the thread. Let's just not talk about this stuff anymore. You're just giving him more ammo.

You're right. I should have taken my rant on Panyo to PM, eventhough I doubt I would recieve a mature responce in private. I'd like to see him simply cool off and move on rather than blast me in threads for no reason whatsoever, but that's something totally out of my control.

As for the topic being hijacked, I stated at the top that I would like to have seen "Hockeytown" on the Oilers Center Ice, which was the topic to begin with. I didn't mean for it to drift this much off topic. I'll man up and take the blame for it.

Bottom line, I really like the new center ice logo in Edmonton. It's very fresh. I figure if you've got a circular shaped logo, use it at mid ice accordingly. :)

When you have the 2 smaller logos the fans sitting on the side where the logo is 'upside down' don't feel like they are sitting on the back side of the arena.

Really? Ive sat on the "back side" many times and actually liked it.

Yeah, save your breath, cause he will ignore your points to the contrary and the local ninny will bash you for questioning him.

Once again, verrrry classy remarks, Payno. For someone who accuses people of always posting off topic and whoring it up on here, you sure do a lot of it yourself. If you wanna continue to attack and in the process start up another firestorm on the boards like last week, be my guest. Maybe I can rack up more posts as a result since you seem to think that's the reason I come here. Bro, just let it go.

As for the topic at hand... Just because I currently reside in the southwest does not mean I don't know my hockey. I know it was born in Canada. I know the Hall of Fame resides in Toronto. I know Montreal has their name egraved on the cup more than any other team. Detroit and the state of Michigan is a great state for hockey (college and pro), no doubt, but they do not eat, sleep, and breath hockey like most Canadaian cities do. That is why I would rather see a city like Edmonton, Toronto, or Montreal be dubbed "Hockeytown".

I think you both need a timeout, and fast. <_<

I think the old set up looks better. The new one looks wierd split down the middle

Yes, the team logos were between the blue lines and center ring, and the Northlands Coliseum logo was at center ice.

The new logo looks good, split as it is and pointed to the camera side.

And Jim Rome is an idiot.

And why not Calgary or Vancouver?

I have to say the new look at center ice is really good.. but I do like the old look where the 2 Oilers logos were at the end of the circle on both side.. but still, nice look of that.. will see that St.Louis/Edmonton game tomorrow on Sportsnet and see for myself.....

I always thought that Detriot was called "Hockeytown USA"...

I don't know too much about Detrot hockey fans, but it seems to me that the nickname is valid.

In the 1996-1997 season, the Red Wings won the Stanley Cup and the same season, the Detroit Vipers won the Turner Cup in the IHL. I would say they earned "Hockeytown USA" that year.

Sure, Detroit is a great hockey town...now. Most of their fans can't tell you anyone (other than Yzerman or Probert) who was on the team prior to the mid-90's explosion. I also remember when they used to put free Dead, I mean Red Wings tickets under windshield wipers at Tiger Stadium.

agreed....it drove me crazy when all the "fans" would claim they waited their whole lives for the cup victories in the nineties, only to get a blank look in their eyes when you mentioned how much you looked up to reed larson, jimmy rutherford, dennis polonich, mike foligno and johnny ogrodnick as a kid. none of them remember the false hope that came with murray craven, petr klima, per djoos, brent fedyk, jeff sharples, and the useless piece of craps that were jimmy carson and joe murphy.

sorry, was this a discussion on edmonton's center ice logo?

Remember the saviour in waiting that went by the name Ray Staszak? I was there in the bad days, the early Seventies "Darkness With Harkness" era, all the washed up, end of the line former greats that Illitch signed, like Reggie Leach, Brad Park, Darryl Sittler, Ron Duguay, etc...I know what you mean about "Bandwagon Fans" though; I was at the victory parade in 1997, and I'm waving at longtime Wing's dressing room assistant Wally Crossman, screaming "Wally!, Wally!", and some sunburned putz from the 'burbs turns to me and says, "Who's Wally Crossman?"...

Since they are not using the red line this year, why not get rid of it so our logos can be uncluttered?. All you need is the faceoff dot, right?

P.S. St. Paul, MN is Hockey City.
