Cubs

I.... wow......

Yankees fan here, and we have our own 7th game coming up but...

How can you not feel bad for the Cubs? They let yet another World Series chance slip... 19 years after they held a commanding lead in the NLCS, and lost the last 3 to lose it to the Padres (was a 5 game series)

And whatever you want to say, don't blame that fan. He didn't reach into the field of play, and he did what any of us would do on a foul ball that was coming into the stands. They way the media and people in Chicago are crucifying this guy is hideous.

Well, Cubbies, i know it hurts more now than ever.... but... it is the great thing about sports... you get another shot in spring...

My wife bet me $20 the Cubs would beat the Marlins tonight, and double-or-nothing the 'Sox would win over the Yanks tomorrow night.  She just doesn't get the curse...

I honestly was pulling for the Cubs though, $20 aside.  I'll also be pulling for the 'Sox.  I've got nothing against the Yankees, but a Yanks-Marlins WS sounds about as exciting as watching paint dry.

Just think how that fan that interfered with that foul ball feels right now.  If I were him.  I'd have a police escort until Spring Training.

it was a damn foul ball...big deal, 99.999% of the rest of us would have done the same thing. it's a game and people should realize that. that fan no longer has a life in chicago and that's pretty damn depressing. i truly feel for the guy, his family and the kids he coaches......what a disgrace chicago is turning out to be in this matter.....ridiculous.

Cowboy Kevin emailed me yesterday...he told me that the infamous Cubs fan works for his company in the Chicago office...

I sure hope the attention to the fan passes as quickly as possible. He didn't do anything the rest of the fans wouldn't have done in the moment and several others were trying to do.

The Marlins hadn't even scored yet that inning when it happened. He may have allowed a runner to reach base by extending his at bat, but nothing more. He's not the one who allowed 17 runs in the next 11 innings.

Being from Chicago originally, I'm at a loss for words beyond that.

Yes, go BoSox!

Red Sox Suck

MLB is praying, PRAYING the Yankees win.... can you imagin a Red Sux-Marlins World Series?

i've had farts that were more interesting.... at least with the Yankees you'll get the huge ratings from the people who love them and love to hate them...

plus it's the BIG EVIL EMPIRE vs the fairweather fans of Miami.. the worst sports fans EVER! well.. maybe not as bad as atlanta's, but close... but most of you soft, yellow-bellied creeps out there always pic the cute little underdog, so it'll have some spark in that respect...

Not for long he doesn't.

Even though I'd be willing to bet 95% of Cubs fans realize that the demise of the Cubs (tee hee hee hee) isn't in any way related to this guy's actions, it's the other 5% that are going to try to harass and intimidate this guy on the job(and now that his name is in the papers they will find out where he works).  Various members of the media will also try to contact him at work.  Eventually his employer will find it to be such a disturbance that they'll have no choice but to let him go.  Just a guess on my part but I've seen it happen before.  There have been a few cast members from reality shows who have been dismissed from their jobs due to the distraction factor.  Same thing's gonna happen here.  By the way, does anyone know what happened to the ball?  If the guy wound up with it then I suppose he could make some $$$ on eBay.

Um, sorry King, but MLB is very likely praying for a Red Sox - Marlins series right now, not Yankees - Marlins.  Ratings will still be good if you get the Sox in there (the other lovable losers) against the underdog.  Yankees - Marlins would be a ratings killer.

I must be in the minority that feels that a big part of the Cubs collapse was because of that particular fan.  Bottomline is... I've seen situations like that throughout the regular season where the outfielder reached over the wall in foul territory and caught a ball without attempts at being caught.  When you see a ball coming at you, and see your teams player reaching his glove out, in a position to catch it, you don't reach out and grab it.  Not to mention, his hand just wasn't in position waiting for the catch, he made a poke at it well after Alou's glove was there.  However, the ump wasn't in the right position.  He should've been over by the wall, not just off of the foul line.

There is no 'curse of the Billy Goat'.  It's just a mental curse at this point.  They probably understood what happened back against the Padre's... and the second something went wrong, it got inside their heads.  Of course, that's just my theory.  Mark Prior does not walk Castillo with the way he had been playing all game without something on his mind.

But if Alou catches that ball, Castillo is an out instead of a walk.  The Marlins took the lead off of a Sacrifice Fly, that would've been the 3rd out.

i'm trying to get over it.  i figure i'm over the fan, but i'm glad i'm not him...knowing the 5% of the Fatalists, i figure he may have gotten a few death threats already.  i figure if i were him, i'd escape to Bill Buckner's house, it's safe there :;):

Since when do the Yankees + World Series = Huge Ratings?

If I remember correctly, the last time the Yankees played in the World Series... they played in one of the greatest World Series' in recent memory... which was also the lowest rated World Series in the modern era.
