-Nevada a 5 seed? The WAC wasn't that strong to begin with. What's even more amusing is that they are playing their former conference rival in Montana.

I think they got that seed based on recent tournament history.

Smart is believing half of what you hear. Genius is knowing which half.

YES!! Bradley's dancing for the first time in a decade!! :D

(Not too disappointed with the seed, had'em as a 12 personally, and like most Illinoisans, I welcome the opportunity to take a shot at Bill Self.) :D

Methinks Tennessee shouldn't have been a 2, Nevada shouldn't be a 5, and Illinois is underseeded at a 4.

Dear Jim Nantz and Billy Packer,

You're claiming that the power conferences got hosed because they got only 76.47% of the at-large bids available. If that isn't the biggest load of fluff I've heard in terms of the selection process, I don't know what is. Plop off, darn it, and celebrate the eight mid-major bids, because there deserved to be 8 mid-majors (though I might have preferred to see Missouri State and Hofstra instead of Utah State and Air Force).

How is GW an 8th seed facing Duke in round 2?

Kinda like how Cincinnati dropped to a #2 the season they were #1, undefeated in conference play, and lost Kenyon Martin in the conference tourney. Or the year Gonzaga was #6 in the polls before the NCAA's, and #6 in their own region.

Small conference schools tend to get axed down a few levels when they lose a player or have a narrow win.

What do you guys think of the infamous 5 / 12 matchups:

Syracuse / Texas A&M

Washington / Utah St.

Nevada / Montana

Pittsburgh / Kent St.

Also, funny how on "Bracketology", ESPN hinted that Winthrop could oust Tennessee. Anybody see any 2/15 upsets, or better yet, any chance of a 1/16 upset?

They're complaining because now they actually have to go and do research rather than just have information fed to them by the BCS media machine.

Hey, hey, hey. No need to go off on WSU151, man. He's just trying to help, that's all.

As for the 2 vs. 15 matchups and the 1 vs. 16 matchups: There's no chance that a 16 seed will win, so forget that. On the other side, I've heard some talk about how Davidson could give Ohio State fits, but nothing about Winplop beating Tennessee and Bruce Pearl's Blazer of Blindness :P

Thanks, Seadragon B) And yes, I'm trying to help, because lilben, as with many things in life, if no one tells you its wrong, you have no incentive to correct it.

... and did you see their interview with the chairman of the selection commitee? Man, I thought for a moment it was a political talk show.

Nantz and Packer were grilling the guy on how the Missouri Valley conference has four teams, and kept telling him about the histroical records of how teams did. That guy could not get his final word in, he got cut off. At least the guys in the studio had some common sense in disagreeing with Nantz and Packer.

I saw, I came, I left.

I agree 100% with you.

The Missouri Valley has never had four teams in and it's been over 2 decades since the Colonial has had mutiple bids.

Let them have their time in the spotlight. Hell, if the cards fall right, UNC Wilmington and Wichita State could be Sweet 16 teams.

Add-On: The Monmouth/Hampton game is on Tuesday, pal.

ESPN has the bracket challenge again this year. You can enter five different brackets. I've done three on a whim so far.

EDIT: Interesting, UCLA is playing Belmont. So at least there will be a team named the Bruins in the second round...

I saw, I came, I left.

Minneapolis Region

No. 1 Villanova vs. No. 16 (Monmouth/Hampton)

No. 8 Arizona vs. No. 9 Wisconsin

No. 5 Nevada vs. No. 12 Montana

No. 4 Boston College vs. No. 13 Pacific

No. 3 Florida vs. No. 14 South Alabama

No. 6 Oklahoma vs. No. 11 Wisconsin-Milwaukee

No. 7 Georgetown vs. No. 10 Northern Iowa

No. 2 Ohio State vs. No. 15 Davidson

If Syracuse is going to jump to a #5 seed for having a horrible regular season and winning the Big East Tourney, why is Florida , a team that ha s a very good regular season and won their tourney just a #3? (yet Tennessee is a #2 <_< )

Probably because Tennessee beat Florida back in Febuary, and had a better conference record. Yeah i know, still doesnt explain Syracuse.
