jojojanes1 1 Posted March 14, 2006 hey guys, i am looking at painting a street hockey mask to match team sweden. i have made a few drawings and am looking for some c and c. all feedback is greatly appreciated.http://img95.imageshack.us/my.php?image=picture440zi.jpghttp://img95.imageshack.us/my.php?image=picture450cj.jpghttp://img95.imageshack.us/my.php?image=picture460ie.jpghttp://img95.imageshack.us/my.php?image=picture478vh.jpghttp://img95.imageshack.us/my.php?image=picture483iw.jpg
Neon_Matrix 0 Posted March 14, 2006 Great idea...but your going to have to put ALOT of coats of heavy varnish on that mask if you dont want it pealing off within a few days. Acrylic will peel and chip easily so your going to have to be careful if you want it to last. Good luck, its a snazy lookin mask, very simple but good lookin.

Put a white primer on it if you want the yellow to show up on your new mask, even the blue, otherwise the yellow will look very dull and dark, same with the blue.2. why do you have Quebec on the side when you have Colorado on the top and side, wouldn't it have made more sens to put Quebec on the top and Colorado on both sides?
Discrim 1,276 Posted March 14, 2006 I was takin a peek at the Nords/Rockies/Avs mask and the front view caught my eye, as the logo under the cage looked VERY familiar...and I quickly realized why-I made that CAQ logo for the Quebec Bulldogs in my NHL Revivals project a few years ago heh, all the logos I'd made that somebody could use, and it's that one the sweden mask, good idea, hope you have a good plan of attack.
pollux 431 Posted March 14, 2006 Neon, the primer is a really great idea to have a nice looking finish. I remember doing the exact same thing when I painted a mask for a friend. He actually wanted the panther on Vanbiesbrouck mask, so I had to take my time... But the result was looking good and very close to the original.I'll try to find a picture of it and post it here, although it's been a long time since I've seen pictures! (and I think they're black and white...)

CDsoftball 0 Posted March 15, 2006 Is that a Louisville TPS street mask from Canadian Tire? Whenever I'm up in canada I hit up the tire to grab a mask for another roller hockey goalie in the states. But here is what I'm doin with mine. the straps and buckles suck ass so I had my wife make me a heavy duty strap system like my regular goalie helmet has and I replaced those crappy mask fastners with metal ones, but I had to drill 2 new holes for the top part of the mask to get everything to sit right. I'll post progess as I go along.http://www.goesp.com/danbom/party.htm

It was before the CCM branded chest/arm protection came out so all I had was a crappy chest protector I borrowed from my school. That mask worked very well, took quite a beating (a few slaps to the head, behind pushed over and smackin my head on the ground, etc) but I never bothered to paint it due to the fact I didnt have enough time to and I wouldnt be using enough that it would be worth doing. If I hadn't been in grade 12 at the time, then maybe it would have been a good idea to paint it, but oh well.
winghaz 1 Posted March 17, 2006 You can't have just one crown for Sweden. It has to be three crowns.
jojojanes1 1 Posted March 17, 2006 the first few sketches only have one crown on each side but as i have made changes as i go i added a 3rd crown just above the cage (in the same spot as the leaf in the canada/quebec/ colorado mask). and the flage now start above the crown on top instead of above the cage.
jojojanes1 1 Posted March 17, 2006 the mask is done, now i have to paint the cage and backplate. heres the pics. once again id like to get lots of c and c. and im still taking ideas for the backplate and cage, so dont hesitate if you think of something.http://img131.imageshack.us/my.php?image=cimg06052rf.jpghttp://img131.imageshack.us/my.php?image=cimg06066rc.jpghttp://img131.imageshack.us/my.php?image=cimg06074sa.jpghttp://img223.imageshack.us/my.php?image=cimg06089wx.jpg
Neon_Matrix 0 Posted March 17, 2006 That looks really good, the only problem I have is your posting Image Shack links and those suck ass. Try using Photobucket, it is MUCH better for hosting and posting images.
jojojanes1 1 Posted March 22, 2006 here's the backplatehttp://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j179/joj...s1/CIMG0609.jpg
spyboy1 60 Posted March 22, 2006 Looks cool! I'm glad you went with a blue mask to match the flag better.
VitaminD 2 Posted March 22, 2006 Beautiful work - what finish and paint did you use? It has an almost metallic sheen to it, like some of the pearl flake paints that football teams use. What's the small detail on the middle of the chin? I couldn't make it out from the picture.Goalie wearing #12? I've seen it in soccer, but that's extremely unusual for hockey of any kind.
jojojanes1 1 Posted March 22, 2006 yup she's almost done. the blue paint is a metallic paint. i havn't done the clear coat on it yet. and the cage is currently drying (it's yellow). the explination of the goalies number is he is a forward in ice hockey and kept his number while playing in net. thanks for the comments
jojojanes1 1 Posted April 5, 2006 hey guys, just an update. i didnt really like the style of the mask so i bought a louisville street hockey mask. i used the same paint job on the new mask except i put the "12" on the chin and i left the backplate blue.http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j179/joj...s1/CIMG0615.jpghttp://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j179/joj...s1/CIMG0614.jpghttp://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j179/joj...s1/CIMG0613.jpghttp://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j179/joj...s1/CIMG0612.jpghttp://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j179/joj...s1/CIMG0617.jpg
