Has New Era changed their sizing?

Don't know if this thread necessarily belongs here, but I know we've had hat discussions before, so I'll post away.

Just received a new 5950 today - the Modesto Nuts road cap. I own four other 5950s, and size 7 5/8 has been a perfect fit on me with all of them. But this new one is obscenely large. As in, I can pull it down to cover the tops of my ears and the majority of my forehead, and there's still some give. Now, I noticed that on this one, the metric size is listed as "61 cm" while my previous hats are marked "60.6 cm." I wouldn't think that 0.4 cm would make such a pronounced difference in fit. So this one's getting sent back, but I'm wondering: should I exchange it for a 7 1/2, or just get my money back with the assumption that New Era no longer carries a size that fits my odd head? And have any of you out there run into this issue?

For all the bird de lis haters I think the bird de lis isnt supposed to be a pelican and a fleur de lis I think its just a fleur de lis with a pelicans head. Thats what it looks like to me. Also the flair around the tip of the beak is just flair that fleur de lis have sometimes source I am from NOLA.

New Era is as hit and miss as you can get. I won't buy one mail-order, as not only is the size inconsistant, but the quality as well. I've always worn a 7 5/8, but when I bought my new Cubs home last year, I had to get a 7 3/4... Again, not sure if that has to do with NE, and any changes in their sizing, or just their traditional inconsistancy.

Well from my experence from being a employee at Hatclub here in

Arizona the past 9 years. New Era hats lately have been running big and deeper

and if you do find your size that fits, it fits shallow. It is hit and miss, but lately, been more misses than anything. It you notice also, on a lot of the fashion hats made, they are maid in China. The fit is completely different. I only where demestic made new era hats. The Game hats, and some customs.

I would send it back for another one in the same size or try and shrink it to fit.

Or you can get your money back either way.

Any other questions, please ask.

Peace from Az

Maybe my head size changed, but I used to wear a 7 3/8 and now I have to wear a 7 1/2. It seems like the sizes are crazy now. I need to wear the 7 1/2 for the circumference of my head but the rest of the hat is huge on my head. It's almost like I just cant wear them anymore.

I wear 7 1/8, and I wanna buy a retro all blue Jays cap online, and I dont know if I should get a 7 1/8 or a 7 1/4, considering the 1/8's are a lil tight on me...they fit, but i gotta loosen em a bit before i put them on and eventually they settle in.

Which hatclub do you work at? I am the AZ Mill's one at least once a month. One of my favorite stores for sure.

i am a LIDS employee. Being that NE's are hand made hats formed around a wood block, means some of the sizes will run different. like stated before the Authentic collection do seem to fit different from any fashion NE. I suggest shooting NE an email, tell them you have bought many a hats from them and you are upset with their quality of their product. being that NE prides themselves in their quality they will probably let you pick something off their site at no charge to you. i did this when i got a couple hats in a row, and all the hats had random seems showing through the inside. and they gave me free reign on any hat on their site.

if you want to shrink up your hat take a waterbottle and spray it down, wear it until it drys this way it forms to your head shape.

Im currently at Chandler Fashion, But I worked all of them here in the valley.

If you do buy on line, it is best to get the size that is a little bigger. With the hats being 100% wool they will shrink with normal wear. Just the nature of the beast.

Better to by big and have the hat for a while or buy a little tight and it won't last

that long after it shrinks.

Only the NewEra hats. It is hard to get Mitchell and Ness here in Arizona.

I was a store manager, it is NOT true. Anyone one can buy a hat, but if you want the discount price you have to sign up for the membership. $5 when you buy your first hat, then 20% for life. It never expires. Great deal, and better than lids. I will admit that the only thing that Lids has on us is their web site, but our stores blow them away.

New Era has infact changed the sizes. Take a look at the cm measurement inside the hats. I don't have the exact numbers but I noticed when my new shipment of New Era's came in last week. I'll hopefully be able to post the new sizes tomorrow

A tip if you don't like how high they sit on your head. Take a pair of scissors and cut out the hard shell on the inside of the front of the hat. Wear in in the shower and leave it on your head for a few hours. The hat will mold to your head.

I cant really tell the difference. But, i will say its unbelievebale how unconsistant New Era hats are, but theyre still the best hat money can buy IMO.

New Era baby! The two hats I own are both the dead on 57 cm ones, and considering the hat I want to buy is well...15 years old...I'm tempted to get the size up, but if I do and it is too big, I'm a little scared it wont shrink enough.

I did that with my graphite Jays hat, and the rim kind of...well...I guess you can say it just looks a little weird when sitting on my head. It fits well, but the rim feels flimsy now and just looks a little off. Maybe its just the lighting, but it kind of bugs me.

I'd pay $50 for a custom hat.

I apparently like my hats deeper than 'kids these day' do. Either that, or my ears are mounted too low. I have a NewEra NHL hat that fits me ok around and deep, but its wool and has the structure in the front, so i'm not crazy about it.

I love the Franchise hats, but they dont make them quite deep enough for me to get them to 'lock' on my head.

I'd drive across country and pay obscene amounts of money if someone would make a cotton, non-structured hat in a 7 3/4, at normal depth, rather than this slim crap everything comes in.

Anyone know of somewhere I might find something similar?
