mustangdmg
I just read an article about an agreement between the MLB and Massachusetts lottery people to have a Red Sox logo on tickets.ESPN article...I don't get it. MLB bans gambling. Yet they agree to have teams' logos on lottery tickets, which more or less, is gambling. Isn't it a tad bit hypocrite? I'm sure somewhere in Vegas, Pete Rose is throwing a fit. Not to mention Shoeless Joe Jackson is turning over in his grave.

Also, the Red Sox are not getting profits from this. This is basically a way to get hard-to-get tickets and get season tickets for life. That's a HUGE prize in Red Sox nation. This method seems much more fair than PSL's and things like that. I don't see the big deal.
officeglenn
The Red Sox will not receive any revenue from the sales. Lottery proceeds support the state's 351 cities and towns.I think that's the operative part of this whole thing. If the Red Sox were to get one penny from this, I don't think MLB would have approved it.
walkdesign
Gambling and the Red Sox go hand in hand.Them winning the World Series was essentially like winning the lottery. If your lucky it will happen once in a lifetime and you'll never hear the end of it and never see it happen again. And like the lottery, after they won they have blown all of the good feelings they gave there fans and they will be talent broke in the next few years with all of the awful moves they make (which is why they never won in the first place) knowing they can be cheap again for the next 10 years and play off of there fans finally winning and getting off there back!Makes perfect sense to me. WICKED!
Cianfrocco
When Safeco Field was under construction, some of the public money came from lottery tickets sold in Seattle. They weren't just regular Washington Lotto tickets either, they were made specifically for the stadium, called "My Oh My," if I remember (catch phrase of announcer Dave Niehaus, by the way). Just another way to make money, I guess.
WSU151
IIsn't it a tad bit hypocrite? I'm sure somewhere in Vegas, Pete Rose is throwing a fit. Not to mention Shoeless Joe Jackson is turning over in his grave. No it's not hypocritical. Pete Rose bet on his sport, and more specifically, his team. I don't think baseball bans players for buying scratch tickets. There is a huge difference between what Pete Rose did and this lottery system. BRice16
As was said in the 10 spot on si.com today, After hearing the news, Pete Rose was last seen looking up "Irony" in the dictionary.
