Good catch, and thanks for the thread.

I'd like to see the shanks - hard to evaluate with only a top view.

Don't like the shape at all. But other than that, I like the design. One might actually wear this.

Man o man, that Marlins ring is awful. The Red Sox ring is nice, though.

Lelands is currently auctioning off a whole lotta rings. Might be interesting to compare:

Lot 678. Jesse Haines 1926 World Series Championship Ring

Lot 222. 1952 New York Yankees World Championship Ring

Lot 447. 1984 Detroit Tigers World Championship Ring

Lot 464. 1987 Minnesota Twins World Championship Ring

Lot 435. 1997 Florida Marlins World Championship Ring

Lot 436. 2001 Arizona Diamondbacks World Champions Ring and Presentation Box

These two are prototypes - the actual rings were a little different.

Lot 476. 1989 Oakland A's World Championship Ring

Lot 197. 1998 Joe Torre New York Yankees Prototype World Champions Ring

Then they have a couple League Championship rings:

Lot 212. 1960 New York Yankees American League Championship Ring

39767a.jpg

Lot 482. 1989 San Francisco Giants National League Championship Ring

39919a.jpg

You can see more, including minor league baseball, NBA, Super Bowl, NHL, NCAA and NASCAR rings here.

Just looking at those, there are some sharp rings. I like the home plate-shaped Yankee prototype and the 1989 A's ring especially. The 1989 Giants ring is fugly.

What an awful ring. It looks like someone took an old mood ring from the 70's and slapped a logo and some diamonds on it. I can't imagine how disappointing it must be to win "the ring" and end up with that. Sorry but that is one ugly World Series ring.

I was listening to the A's and Yankees on XM tonight and the A's announcer called the White Sox rings "garish." I think it was a nice way of saying horrific. :D

I could not agree with you more.

That thing is hideous. I don't care if I had won the WS or not, I would not wear that thing.

I am wondering if the players can design and get another one.

In Response to the "Hard Fightin Soldiers" quote on the side of the Auburn Ring.

It's actually refering to a gospel song that the team sung after each win. The song was brought by the team's Chaplain and was almost a motto.

It was on a Commemorative T-Shirt:

HardFightingSoldier-feature.gif

and on a DVD:

AU2004DVD.jpg

and if the ring was in bad taste, or stupid to have in the first place. It was a promise to the team and Tubberville made good on the promise. Athletes get rings for a ton of accomplishments that you wouldn't even think of (Sweet Sixteens, Bowl Victories, etc).

And although we weren't AP National Champions. We were Golf Digest, Eufaula Tribune, and People's Vote National Champions.

More than anything it was a tounge-in-cheek comment on the season.

How can they auction off Joe Torre and Jim Leyland's rings? Wouldn't they want to keep them?

You see? Now why cant ALL Championship rings look like this? The teams logo surrounded by diamonds is the only way a championship ring should be done. I was so dissapointed when i saw that the Buccaneers Super Bowl 37 rings had the trophy on it rather than the flag logo.

I love it...all the bling, a nice clean logo, and it actually looks like a RING.

I agree, it's a lot cleaner and less cluttered than most championship rings - though overall I hate how gawdy and ugly most of these rings are (kind of like non-signet high school rings but even worse). Maybe it's just me but I don't really like men wearing ostentatious jewelry.

I think the problem with the White Sox ring is the fact that it's an oval - which in my mind makes it look more feminine.

I think it'd look better if it was a square shape.

The rings are prototypes.

I just went to that website, and they're auctioning off, I guess, replicas of the rings? I doubt Kirk Gibson would need nor want to auction off his 84 ring. But I could be wrong.

I've always enjoyed the Dallas Cowboys rings:

And look at this piece of garbage:

Except for where noted (salesmen samples or prototypes), they're auctioning off the real rings.

Some athletes need the money, some just aren't sentimental about these things.

I have yet to see a thread regarding the White Sox World Series rings. Here it is...

Still not as nice as this:

Does anyone else find it funny the Marlins put the Yankees' logo on their championship ring?

I would put the Yankee logo on the ring if I had beat them. On Monday night, Marlins VP Dan Jennings was sitting next to me in the press box. He was wearing the "B" version of that ring(Most people actually wear those) It was a little smaller plus "Marlins" and the fish were gold instead of diamonds.

The thing that I like about this is that it's relatively simple (showing how far out these things get, that such a behemoth could possibly be considered "simple").

I think the Astros NL Championship Rings look better than the White Sox ring. You can take a look at them in the photo gallery at www.astros.com

It's flash, so I can't post a link, but here's a partial look at it:

I like. Simple - team logo on a team color field, words around it.
