I wonder if they'll still sell beer and play loud music during the game.

Believe it or not, some branches of Christianity like beer and music. :D

Was that ever in doubt? Hasn't everyone had a few beers with a preist at some point?

now only if someone would have a beer with a rabbi....

As a Roman Catholic, I can tell you that recent history would show that to be a dangerous proposition. At least if you're in grade school.

Okay, now that I got that one out of the way, I don't think this is offensive. I do think this, and all of those other Christian jerseys is crass, tacky, transparent commercialism feeding off the good-natured beliefs of people with faith. It has as much to do with legitimate religious belief as, say, the all-new Mary Magdalene brand female condom - "Let he who has never shown up unprepared cast the first stone!"

Available at Walgreens, CVS, and wherever fine yard tools are sold.

I would think that the distinction between bible verses on the sleeves and a gay pride nights sponsored by a (San Francisco-based) baseball team would be obvious. I don't think you'll see Barry Bonds with a PACE flag on his arm anytime soon.

It is the teamowner's right to put whatever crap he wants on his uniforms. And it's not like we aren't already used to religious iconography on team uniforms anyways -- the Padres.

I might be more comfortable if Jesus Night were free to all patrons -- that seems kind of in-line with Christian principles.

"PACE" flags actually have nothing to do with gay pride. Pace is the Italian word for peace, and they were manufactured as an anti-war item. They do resemble the gay pride flag, but it's different.

As for the promotion, I think the Steeldogs can do whatever they want. They are a private moneymaking organisation, and they are not a school, post office, or public service. (Actually I think af2 might be the opposite of public service ^_^ ) If they want to promote the Bible, and spend the money to do it, then don't go if you don't want to. If they did this in some other places, there would be an uproar, and they wouldn't make money. It's a little risky, but there is no law against having scripture jerseys or whatever they are.

Plus the Birmingham jerseys are Bears knockoffs.

lets take the other side say that using christian symbols and scripture is a form of pushing christian beliefs off on people that are not christians. would not using the american flag and american symbols be a form of pushing pride, patriotism off on those that don't have an allegience to america or is offended by what america stands for?

Huh....I thought the pride movement had appropriated the PACE flag, but I guess I was wrong.

So in that sense, what's keeping Barry Bonds or any pro sports team from sporting a PACE flag? How about a yellow ribbon? How about something for peace in a time of war? Does anyone think that would go over well? I don't.

To continue the tangent, you know how some teams have commerative patches on their uniforms? I'm guessing those are cleared by the league beforehand. I wonder if Bud Seling or Paul Tagliabue would allow pro or anti-war regalia on uniforms. I'm betting they wouldn't, but it seems to me like it should be the owner's choice.

This is the most ridiculious thing I have ever heard! I agree totally that I would be offended and very upset. There IS the seperation between church and state as there should be a seperation between church and SPORTS! This is stupid. IF people want to preach their religion there are times and places to do that (ie IN CHURCH?)NOT on a playing field where many fans may not share that opinion!

I am a christian I am a member of the Bham Steeldog Fan club. I'm not commenting on if I like the idea or not, but the seperation of Church and State has nothing to do with the Birmingham Steeldogs and there jerseys. Is the ownership of the Birmingham Steeldogs the Federal, State or Local governments. That would be no. It is owned by 2 individuals not government. If you want to argue it is in bad taste or offensive go right ahead just get your facts straight.

If a grade-schooler is drinking beers with a priest, then that indeed is a dangerous proposition :P

i think it is funny when stuff like this offends people (I assume some who said they were offended were only kidding, but still...)

responding to the person who said this was bush of them to do....well, YEAH...this isn't the NFL. It is a lower-tier league and it is promotions like this that make minor league sports cool and fun.

I am sure they will auction these jerseys off after the game (as they normally do) and probably give the proceeds to a charity or something. Good for them.

Sampson was a man of great physical strength in the OT. Was known to be the strongest man alive.

I personally think it is a bit much and I am a Christian...but I don't think it is wrong for them to do it....a bit odd, but not wrong or offensive.

People really need to lighten up.

Many Presbyterians & Lutherans could be included as well.

I still think the jerseys are tacky.
